Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Not sure his +/- does justice to how solid he is defensively under the hood though, that's more influenced by him playing all situations on pretty bad team.

Barr really just saying "size matters" this offseason huh?
I tend not to put too much weight on +/- but it's at least a mild concern. That said, I watched one ASU game all year so I have no clue how he was deployed.

Some ASU fan put together a highlight reel from his OHL career. The guys spends a lot of time near the crease and gets creative with the backhand for both passes and shots.

Maybe Barr has been reading all our keyboard coach posts:) If they can skate come on down.

So how many guys has he committed to for 26, 27 season?
Returnees (13):

Albin Boija | Owen Fowler | Max Scott | Charlie Russell | Sully Scholle | Jaden Lipinski | Thomas Pichette
Will Gerrior | Oskar Komarov | Jeremy Langlois | Lukas Peterson | Loic Usereau | Brock James

Transfers (7):

Petter Wickström Stumer | Tanner Klimpke | Lee Parks | Sam Alfano | Judah Makway | Alexander Bales | Chris Romaine

We'd end up with spots for a mix of:

Dante Siciliano | Kuzma Voronin | Masun Fleece | Malachi McKinnon | Rowan Calvert | Ludvig Lafton | Ross Campbell

So far I've got 13 returning (excludes JP) and 7 transfers. There's no real way to know which freshman are coming until it's announced. Petter Wickstrom Stumer is a designated student athlete though so he will not count against the roster cap.

It's more likely Alfano is in BECAUSE Poirier is gone. Every insider is adamant Poirier actually enters sooner than later.
Clearly JP is playing the transfer market without actually going in the portal to see what his best deal can be before he resigns from maine by entering. If a program/deal better than maine comes along, gone, if not stay.
Its a slimy way to go about it but you know this bs goes on through agents or parents without actually dealing with the player until their in the portal.
I suspect his injury and surgery complicates things. I cant help but wonder why he waited so long for the surgery. Must have been a medical reason which cant be a good thing.

There is some strategy with positioning yourself as the biggest fish left on the market. Other teams get a chance to see where they stack up after a week of portal activity and know whether or not the need to dip into their coffers to keep pace with their conference foes. Idk if it tracks as 'slimy' per se, but it could certainly force teams to get desperate and the player gets a nice bump.

I don't think Maine will be desperate enough to play that game with the players they brought in (and the potential incoming recruits as well).

McMahon had posted showing the CHIP In + Out of all the teams. Maine was 20th before the Alfano add and are now a +41.4 with just the transfer moves alone.

Honestly Poirier painted himself into this corner and someone leaked it to McMahon and now silence. @tylerzx2002 is on the money..don't enter until you leverage leverage leverage. People worried about "trashing the player on the way out" need to look at how this situation is unfolding. Injury doesn't stop him from being in the portal. Maybe the "trash talk" was right

Maybe Barr told him find your offer and if you can't find it you can come back here for a pat on the back 🤔

6’4 204 lb forward from ASU is transferring to Maine.

Hell ya that’s a sick get. Sounds like Lipinski coming out from Paradise Valley

I’m starting to feel ok. And I bet PWS ends up being a savage in goal

What if McMahon just made a mistake? Has there been verified chatter from other perspectives or anything beyond McMahon’s track record?

Mikael Lalancette (Le Soleil de Quebec) was the first to report on Poirier hitting the portal (LINK). Would imagine a major Quebec newspaper would probably be a reasonably trusted source here, on top of McMahon doing his own due diligence following up with his sources.

Anyone thinking JP is coming back is kidding themselves.

It looks like of all the guys who actually entered the portal, Bodie Nobes is the only one still looking for a home. Hope he lands on his feet, I liked his energy.
