Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

I think is less of a Maine issue as much as this is a sign of the times in college sports. Football and Basketball has turned into glorified Free Agency for players trying to get as much NIL money as possible....hockey is just catching up at a smaller scale. I do not blame the kids at all for taking advantage for what Division 1 athletics have turned into.

Whats happening is why I whined about the money spent on renovations and not what was obviously the future of college hockey, a minor pro league where you need money to pay players

Mike McMahon has a google doc for his subscribers on substack, I'm leery to link to it because it's a pay feature. If you subscribe it's linked on his site.

Looks like Poirier, Northeastern's Dylan Compton, and Vermont's Caeden Harrington are all headed to the Badgers.
Would be kinda cool if that link happened to find its way to me in a DM, just saying...

I would not be surprised if he gets 100k+ at a Big10 school so you want him to eat up fifth of the budget? I dont see it happening
There was an article on EP a couple days ago that mentioned that only a few players got more than $100K in college hockey this season. If that's accurate people seem to be overestimating how much money is getting thrown around to these players. Poirier will definitely get a pay bump going to the B1G but not to that level.

Right, but Maine can't spend that entire $500,000 this year (unless he made a repeating gift, which, cool). I'd assume that's going to be an endowment of some sort and a percentage will be available year to year.

Arthur S. Demoulas is reportedly worth $1.5-$3 billion.
