I think they cut him loose last May.

Celibrini becomes the 6th teenager with 100+ points in a season.

I was about ready to argue that Edvinsson should be shopped for picks, until I checked and realized he's been +12 and +11 on a mediocre team for two years in a row now.
 
They have to end the "Yzerplan", right? They're the 9th oldest team, but the other 8 have had playoff runs in the last ten years. They've done a full rebuild right into middle age.

The promise was always the rookies, and they are developing but every single free agent signing has been awful. I could be a better pro scout than whoever they have doing it.

Yzerman focused on the draft and never got a lotto pick and can't/won't make a trade to get a top line forward. When everyone is in the playoff push in the east and nearly everyone in the west tanking there doesn't seem to be any true talent available.

This team is built to be mid. And that doesn't even consider their aversion to never crash the net or their drive by screening of the keeper. It is maddening to see the goalie have a perfect view of the puck until one random winger skates across the crease thinking that the opposing sieve lacks object permanence.
 
I also hate they way they end up having to get out of their zone- so very many high dump out shots. Can't call them passes, as nobody is fast enough to get them. So most of the time, the D gets a few seconds to "reset" before crushed by offensive pressure. They spend way too much time in the D zone because they have no way to break out.

I don't even know if there's an actual style that Detroit plays anymore. It certainly does not make an use of whatever talent they do seem to have. If there is a style, based on the last few seasons, it's exhausting to play since they have consistently gotten worse as the season went on.

im still surprised some of their fans on reddit insist that they will get hughes for free after next year. I don't think anyone can assume those things anymore

They don't have a forward to threaten the defense. For years it was only Larkin able to carry the puck across the blue line.

There is no speed on this team and zero puck handling abilities. Stacking the blue line and forcing a dump is the safest D against us because we have nobody to get into the corner and win a puck battle. They are slow and soft.

It was Seider and Edvensson who were the puck carriers into the zone late in the 3rd creating chances.

I think a few Michigan fans have this fantasy of reuniting former players in Detroit. I think FA is much more complicated. But fans are going to fan.

I think it was just more astounding seeing some of them so confident, literally right after NJ fans had to pick themselves up off the floor.

The only time a reunion would happen is if the new guy got to the locker the day the old guys were packing their stuff to get to their new teams.
