Wisconsin Hockey 25-26 Hastings Year 3 - Turning the Corner?

Saw a stat our D are scoring at a rate that rivals the 09-10 team. Interesting. It's also interesting that the 09-10 had 6 NHL d on the roster. Stupid Ford field ice sheet.
The biggest regret I took away was that Ford field ice. Puck bounced on a break away for us that would have tied the game. Forgot who had the puck he was one of our best scorers of that era.

Rough start. I already thought the team looked different without Zelenov as a big time playmaker. Without Morrisey as well that really hurts.

Hoping for a comeback but against MSU that’s as tough a task as you can get in NCAA.

I was at the game through 2 periods, then out. I know we are down some players, but it was men against boys last night. They've got to find a way to pick it up a couple of notches or the second half run through the Big 10 is going to be ugly.

That was one of the worst passing performances I have ever seen. I’m not sure I saw more than 10 total tape-to-tape in stride passes across the entire game. The result was a very dysfunctional looking team.

I didn't see the whole game but MSU looks bigger/faster/stronger than Bucky. They consistently win battles in the corners and forecheck hard - I think that's what Hastings wants out of his team and is hopefully recruiting players to fit that style.
The Badgers were missing two of their top three centers. Kukkonen goes from being the 14th forward to play on the second line with Tulk LOL. I was surprised Brink didn't dress and they dressed Knox as the extra skater. I wonder if he's injured? Montgomery is really due for a goal LOL. In each game he had a really nice drives from tight angles across the goal crease and it just didn't go in.

It seemed to me like Wisconsin was trying to stretch MSU on the breakout with longer passes and it just wasn't necessarily working consistently.

I don't know why he just doesn't play Hauser all the time. Pulver wasn't terrible but that 3rd goal was. I just think he gives him a better chance to win.

Agreed.

Last night was the first time (imo) this season that it looked like UW was completely overmatched and not going to win almost from the jump.

To my eyes UW has not looked the same since Schulz went down. Not sure why that is but they just look different. Then add Zelenov going down with a similar injury. Zelenov is an elite playmaker and is deeply missed. He was heating up and looking really comfortable then boom, gone.

Morrisey being out also hurt big time, leading scorer and glue guy.

Having 1/6 of the starting line-up out takes a toll.

Also…I really like Finn Brink, why didn’t he play last night? He’s been really good! Reminds me a bit of Ross Carlson.

When did Morrissey get injured? I was wondering why he was absent last night. I thought he might have gotten benched due to his performance the night before. It seemed he lost a lot of faceoffs on Thursday.
Another thing is our lack of finish. We didn't score on any odd men advantages I can remember. I think MSU scored on half of theirs. Montgomery was able to get passed the turning defenseman a couple of times, but nothing in the back of the net.

Didn't he take a hard shot to the ankle or leg on Thursday and left the game?
I have no clue. I watched Thursday's game on TV and I don't recall them mentioning an injury. Since I went Friday I didn't get to listen to Posick on pregame when it might have been mentioned. It was a dud of a game having travelled from out of state for a family issue and making my way to and from Madison in the snow. It was my second game at the Kohl Center, the first being in the Heatley days. To top it off I was surrounded by kids whose only interest was blocking my view, though honestly there wasn't much worth seeing.

Did you consider relocating after the first period or was it too full?
That would have been the plan if I stayed for the third. Although there weren't many tickets left when I bought mine 2 hours before the game, I'd say the place was 70% full at the max. I think the weather kept some away. Certainly there was getting to be ample room after the second, but given the weather and the score, I left. I listened to the third on the radio, and Posick mentioned it was getting thin by the time they finally scored late in the third.

I don’t blame anyone for leaving early. I left with just over 5 minutes left in the 3rd. It was the worst game I’ve seen in person since the Eaves days.
