I don't know who bias and fact checks Media Bias Fact Check. Like a dictionary I assume at some level all knowledge is self-referential, but that does not invalidate the possibility of truth or falsity.

tldr: One right-wing think tank (Manhattan Institute) made allegations. All the right-wing sources then echo chambered these allegations, reporting on them as if they were fact, with increasing zeal and alarm. Dump's Nazi DOJ got involved, and started throwing legal hands.

My guess: there's marginal fraud every time money changes hands in larger amounts (cf. Dump's entire career). There's gotta be fraud here too. Because beneficiaries are the wrong color and religion for the MAGAts that then gets promulgated as both "massive" and also "terrorist," Because they aren't exactly subtle in their xenophobia. And it is going to be statistically true that if Muzzies get money some will find its way to Muzzie extremists in exactly the way that some fractional amount of Irish money will go to the IRA or white southern money will go to the Klan or Evangelical Christian money will go to gay porn. So when eventually the feds do find somebody who stole money that will "prove" the entire evil conspiracy WAS REAL ALL ALONG MAN.

You can do this with any statement and create a "consensus" about it within a controlled, epistemologically-closed space like the right wing sphere.

Yeah I was up to speed on most of that, but this seems to suggest there was a lot of fraud but there's no evidence any of the stolen money funded terrorists. I mean great, but still? Also that was written before this latest day-care hubbub.

Yes, a handful of Somali were implicated in some fraud to steal welfare program moneys. This may be, at least in part, a re-hashing of the group that was discovered three or so years ago, but has since grown to include more people. In addition to the Somalis, there are other people implicated completely unrelated to the Somalis. No, thus far there have been no direct connections to terrorist groups. Current estimates are around $9bn in total fraud.

they always omit that Trump removed some of the checks to distribute money faster. and the MN repubs last year blocked more funding going to the agency investigating fraud.

Was there a singular event that forced Alaska's view on booze or was it more of a general realization over time on how destructive it had become up there?

Just seeing (from a distance) how it's talked about when you travel to the interior or through outlets like Deadliest Catch seems like it's become it's own monster up there, even when compared to how groups like Mormans view it down here in the lower 48.

Yeah, there’s definitely a negative view towards alcohol and it’s especially true in the rural areas. Alaska has some of the strictest alcohol laws in the country, highlights include:

All alcohol has to be sold in a separate store, no beer and wine in the grocery store.

Any area where alcohol is being served has to be completely separated and access restricted to people of legal age (unless accompanied by a parent). This means sporting events and concerts have to have separate “wet” and “dry” sections.

Communities can ban alcohol if they wish. Dry villages are a thing (and so is bootlegging).

And that’s just the stuff off the top of my head.
