UMass Lowell 2025-2026: Youth will be served

I know two of the games were neutral sites, but for this purpose, I'm counting them as road games.

Lowell is 6-8 overall this season, 35 GF 38 GA.

On Friday's, they're 2-6, 13 GF 22 GA. At home, they're just 1-2 on Fridays, scoring 5 goals, giving up just 4 (but they've only scored 1 goal in two of those games combined).
On Saturday's, they're 4-2, 22-16 goals. On the road (including neutral games) they're 3-1, scoring 17 while giving up 9.

In other words, I don't have much hope for tonight. :ROFLMAO:

16 games played, in 9 of them Lowell has scored 1 goal or less.

More stats ...
The last time we won the HE Tournament Title (2016/2017 season), in league play Lowell averaged 3.45 GPG while giving up 2.32. Overall, Lowell scored 3.68 GPG and gave up 2.32 in their 41 games that season.

Just sticking with that time frame since I looked at Coach Bazin's record earlier for that time frame, in the last 5 years in league play, we are averaging just 2.25 GPG over these 4+ seasons while giving up 2.58. Overall, 2.47 GPG while giving up 2.60.

To help understand those numbers more and really show the dearth of offensive prowess, Lowell averaged about 36 games the last four full seasons. Based on the great season (16/17) and compared to the last 4 years, we've only given up 10 goals a game more per year in all games. But using those same averages the other way, we've scored 43 less goals per year. That's ... astounding.

I think the effort was better tonight, yet the final score was still the same. Think Cloutier definitely made some big stops; they certainly had their chances.

Do BC fans not care much about non-BU games? I got my ticket for $3 on the secondary market and saw dozens listed for $5 or under. Plenty of empty seats there too

I watched the game on ESPN+ and I also thought the Hawks had plenty of chances. They just need to convert them. The team is also taking too many penalties. Another major last night. I believe that was the 3rd in the last 4 games. The passing also needs to improve.

The blind passes thinking players are there NEEEEEED to stop, especially on the power play. Killed any momentum on PP on Friday. Did anyone else think that the refs let BC get away with a TON of stuff behind and after the play? Hagens cross checked someone in the face after a turnover with no call... and they called Ahearn for roughing when he was cross checked to the ice?

It's exam time and I'd be cramming for exams or finishing up projects if I was a BC student. High school super bowl games, etc. The resellers buiy up a lot of the tickets and charge usury fees. Why pay $50 - $60 for a ticket on face value $20 to $25 ? I am not paying $300 for Beanpot tickets in the balcony when schools used to be allotted tickets to sell to their fans.

I'm more referring to the non-student fan population, and for this game at least, the ticket prices were insanely cheap. The secondary market had them for $3 on multiple different sites.

I may be wrong on this but the entire upper deck on one side is reserved for students. Those tickets can only be resold as student tickets so that will account for most of the empty seats. BC season ticket holders in the lower seats are notorious for not showing up to most of the games. They probably hold onto them for prestige and the options to go to the best games and get Beanpot tickets. Many of them can well afford to do that. For the most part BC plays the Friday game of a weekend series but this time it was Saturday. Again, the weekend warriors are gone to the Cape or wherever they go. So, more tickets are available in this scenario than usual. Most of the tickets were sold for the game, they just weren't used.

I decided to do a little research on our goalies after a conversation with someone, comparing the amount of goals we score with each of them in net, compared to the number allowed. I converted the former into a number per 60 minutes, so that it matches GAA. (Similar to Run Support for a Pitcher in baseball)

When Austin Elliott is in net, Lowell is scoring 2.74 goals per 60 minutes and allowing 2.55. (29 scored, 27 allowed + 1 empty netter allowed) (I did not factor the ENG into the GAA)
When Samuel Richard is in net, Lowell is scoring 1.55 goals per 60 minutes and allowing 2.72. (8 scored, 14 allowed + 2 empty netters allowed)

Elliott has allowed 2 goals or less 7 times in 12 games, going 3-3 with 1 no decision in those games (Lowell lost the no-decision).
Richard is 1-0 when he doesn't allow a goal, and 0-4 with 2 no decisions when he does (both Lowell losses).

The defensive numbers are similar, but the offense is clearly more of an issue when Richard is in there. The question is - why? With Elliott in there, they should be a slightly above .500 team by the numbers. Richard is doing his job, but the rest of team is letting him down, leading to the poor record.

Make of this what you will.....

If anyone is interested in a ticket for the game tonight in Portland, I have an extra and will sell for cheap (bought 2 and could not get someone to come up on a Wednesday night with me). Section T Row 18
