Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

It's about 6k families, in most of which the vast majority of the wealth is in the hands of 5 or fewer individuals.

There are fewer American car accident fatalities each year.

But I was told that Billionaires have enough money and couldn't want any more and are graciously patriotic and wanting to move mountains to just make life better for everyone?

No?

All they want is more money and everyone else can fuck off if they aren't making the Billionaires richer?

Oh.

😉
I’m curious to see what Bill Gates is buying, specifically, and if it’s farmland, to what use. Make no mistake, I do not view him as some angelic, altruistic person, but he seems to be one of the few billionaires with more realistic/plugged-in views of the masses that we have. It might be him, then the Disney heiress, then Mark Cuban (to a much lesser extent, but certainly vocal), and then a big drop down to Warren Buffet.

I can realistically see Gates buying up the land to grow crops used for both food producing medicinal ingredients for his charitable fund.

I seem to recall Gates and one of Buffet's sons working on research for more productive crops at some point, too. I mean, I'm sure there's something in it for him, but at least there's, like, some purpose to it, maybe.

I doubt it...I think you guys are seeing what you want to see because Gates is good at keeping his image clean.

And Cuban sucks balls.

Oh God, the "it's always Blackrock" conspiracy people on TikTok are right?
Not necessarily Blackrock but certainly some corporations. For example, in Anchorage the vast majority of multi-unit apartment buildings are owned Weidner Properties, a company from Colorado that is notorious for huge fees and terrible service. They donate and lobby extensively in local politics to prevent construction of new buildings to protect their near monopoly too.

Yeah, Cuban has been on camera talking about how much he loves Rand and Atlas Shrugged, he’s a POS like the rest.
I get that rich people don't like regulations. But then they should not be going out of their way harming people, then.

That's the root of almost all regulations- people died when train rails failed- regulation about the hardness and toughness of train rails; people died from bad meat- regulations about food handling; people died in workplace fires- regulations requiring free exits and fire protection, etc etc etc.

I had a discussion with a guy at work about regulations (I worked at F as an emissions engineer), and he claimed we didn't need them - using his spouse's soap business. I had to ask him when was the first time that an industry effectively regulated itself to not harm workers, consumers, or the general public- he could not answer that.

Greed has always won over doing the right thing over the long run. Even if 9 out of 10 companies go beyond the rules to make everyone safe - that one will make enough money to justify breaking down of the other 9's will to keep doing the right thing.

Then there is the argument that regulations are bad for businesses to hire people- and I call total BS on that. I worked with a huge amount of people in just research to develop solutions to current and future emissions regulations. Add to that the number who were doing work on upcoming products. Multiply that by the number of different companies, and you will find over 10,000 highly paid engineers in the US just working on automotive emissions. That's over $1B in wages that is used in the economy. Then add in the safety regulations that people work on.

I can go on, but the actual end result of regulations has been an expansion of economic opportunities, and a general increase in quality and durability of products. On top of the significant reduction of harm to the environment and people.

For the racing fans, you can see a similar expansion of F1 teams with every regulation set change- adding to the economy by a big amount. Regulations didn't kill F1 at all- it expanded it.

I'm pretty sure there are a number of people on this board who have the exact same experience.

So any business person who claims that A-S is some work of actuality, that just tells me that they have no idea the actual impact of regulations and they are pretty clueless about business in general. Also meaning they didn't actually earn the money they use for the power they have.

Seems the outrage against Cracker Barrel's logo redesign has been ginned up behind the scenes by the MAGA owner of Steak and Shake. He unsuccessfully tried to take over Cracker Barrel a few years ago and bring them into the Steak and Shake family, and seems to be fueling the outrage to drive the stock down in an effort to take the company again.
Surely this is just as illegal as “pump and dump” right? “Droop and swoop?”

Ol' Mr. Beef Tallow? The guy who followed woke science until RFK said it was okay to use again?

Yes, very much so. The question becomes this: Hoe much did he donate to Orange Droolius’s election fund? That will determine is TACO Supreme tells the DOJ to let him skate.
