Wisconsin Badger 2025 Offseason

I ALMOST feel bad for them....the no call on the trip that immediately transitioned into the OT GWG, not giving the goalie a chance to work out the equipment issue (to have the cold backup scored on on the only shot he sees), and the mugging/cross check behind the net that immediately moved to the front of the net for a goal against were all pretty bad and I would definately be irrate if the Badgers were on the other end of that. Couldn;t happen to a nicer nunch though.
ESPN misinformed so many people on this. It’s in the rule book and the ref followed it accurately.

I'm not convinced it was a penalty. IMHO.
I'm with you. The Umass player leaned forward and extended his stick with one hand and it tapped the gopher on the front shin. The stick didn't go between his legs or hit on or near his skate. The force of that contact with one hand on the stick was very minimal and it looked to me the gopher tried to help the call by going down. If I call a trip I also call embellishment and match them up.

Looked to me like the stick hit the top of the skate just enough for the toe part of the skate blade to catch on the ice and take the skates out from under him.

Found a better view and frame by frame it seems he swatted at the puck, missed and clipped the skate. Wouldn't disagree with a penalty being called.

I was pulling for UConn over Ped St., but not to be. Solidly behind Western Michigan to get their first.

I also will shed no tears for BC losing. I really like seeing the 'all star' teams go down. We're not catching Denver anytime soon, so I'm glad that BC will remain behind us.

In other news, transfer portal opens tomorrow. Any predictions for who leaves? The team will need to move on from at least a couple of forwards to meet next years roster limits.
Find it interesting we haven't heard anything about Wisconsin players entering the portal. I assume guys like Mehlenbacher, Pietela, Buss, etc are looking for bigger roles and I'm not sold it will be for Wisconsin.

I wonder... With Horbach showing the ability to play both forward and defenseman, maybe they go 16F 7D 3G for the 26 man roster breakdown?

I thought Mehlenbacher flashed a little towards the end of the season but no real opinion on Pietela or Buss.

I think that Horbach showed enough at D where he should strongly consider a switch.

Lots of players in the portal now - wouldn't mind a big stay at home D man or two......

A few portal updates as I've been paying attention the past two days.

First, as of last 5-10 minutes, both Mehlenbacher and Gramme are in the portal. No real surprise there, and personally I think both could succeed at smaller schools in different conferences, and I hope they do.

Some other big names in the portal: Army's Mac Gadowsky (D) who scored 42 points this year, almost certainly going to Penn State to play for his dad. Also Colin Ralph, a D from St. Cloud and NHL 2nd rounder. Obvious frontrunner there is the gophers but would be great to have a big (6-5) blueliner like that here if somehow possible.

Some notable forwards in the portal as well but badgers will need to dump a few more forwards before they would look into bringing one in through the portal.

So, Badgers will be getting another free agent goalie. Not great. Not surprised by this as when he wasn't getting playing I figured he was in the doghouse, was struggling at practice, and / or had let the team know he was moving on after the year.

Nailed Mehlenbacher leaving. He was the first guy that came to mind in terms of guys who don’t seem to fit the team.

The starter should be Hauser. Now just need a solid backup for competition.
