2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

The most important thing is Republicans can't run their "anyone who voted Democratic is a Satanic gay communist" anymore, because now everybody in the deep south has family members who got fed up and took a nip of Dem Juice. One party rule is self-reinforcing, but its erosion can be very fast. Witness how the Solid South went from Dem to GOP in one generation.

I expect the slave states will settle into the political environment of light red Ohio or Iowa now. Still typically GOP due to military emphasis and broadly conservative social pressures, but not so far that Dems winning statewide are black swan events. Likewise, western suburban sprawls may gradually move blue to purple as long as the GOP gets the message and renounces extremism. It won't happen overnight, but hopefully the map starts to get a lot more jumbled and interesting rather than bifurcating into two warring blocs like the last 30 years.

Maybe historians will bracket the period of Gingrich to Dump as The Drunken Veer of American history, when we slumped at the wheel and nearly went over the cliff.

Gawd D*mn it, the land of Rocks for Brains and Cows sent Fischbach, Emmer and Stauber back to Washington......

I am picturing grid lock mostly in Washington. Trump has already threatened vetos, and Dems didn't get a super majority. But, at least there should be some checks put back into place on this corrupt administration.

But, they have made enough money in the last two year to set themselves up for life. My fear now is what are they going to try to push through in the next couple of month?

People who look well positioned to run for president in 2028:
  • Ossoff, GA
  • Cooper, NC
  • Beshear, KY
  • Shapiro, PA
Moment passed?
  • Newsom, CA
  • Buttigeig, MI
  • Warnack, GA
  • Kelly, AZ
  • Murphy, CT (well, yeah...)
Too soon but just you wait:
  • Talarico, TX
  • Ocasio-Cortez, NY
Never had it:
  • Hickenlooper, CO
Don't you even think about it for a minute you asshole:
  • Harris, CA

That is true. At least some workers got the money.

Amy Klobuchar also received the State Senate and House. And she's smart, and not an overreacher. A lot of good is going to happen in Minnesota over the next 4 years.
And you didn't elect Tafoya, who I didn't even know was running until I saw her comments about a former sideline reporter. Tafoya was freaking evil to her criticizing that she took so long to report a miscarriage that happened while she was working at a FB game. It was really nasty- then I heard she was running.

Good lord, what a horrible person that is.

The leading thought for Alaska is that Sullivan is cooked as nearly all the votes in his strong areas like the Mat-Su Valley are already and most of the outstanding votes are likely to go to Peltola with her already in the lead as of the last update at 2:45am. The real question is whether she’ll hit 50%.

Looking at RCP right now - is it a good or bad assumption that most of the Heikes and Dan J Sullivan votes would trend towards Dan Sullivan in the next rounds of the ranked choice voting? So maybe thats not a good sign for Petola?

(Assuming she does not hit 50% of course)

“If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed…….and we will deserve it.” --Lindsey Graham

“I say to my GOP colleagues, there will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will live on.” --Liz Cheney

“There has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.” --Dick Cheney

There are so many more. They were all correct, but most didn't have the moral courage to step up and do what they knew was the right thing.

Sure is fun scrolling r/conservative while enjoying a hot morning cup of MAGA tears.

Get behind him? The way he and Slotkin were talking about going after Republicans we’ll be lucky if we can even just batten down the hatches and hide. He’s by far one of the most radical candidates they ran and he now has license to do whatever.

Cook the spoon and let's mainline it, baby!

With 54 seats (and potentially more), Dem voters need to not freak out when Turek, Brown, and others from more purple states pull a reverse Collins. So long as they vote blue when it matters, give them leave to express their 'independence' when it doesn't. That's one way they'll be able to retain these seats in 6 years.

I'm not saying let them go full Fetterman or Manchin, but let them be as concerned as Collins. It worked well for her for 30 years.

Bad assumption. Historically the person ahead going into the RCV tabulation nearly always maintains their lead (and that’s what happened in 2022).

The votes for the other Dan Sullivan are likely protest votes and Heikes is similar, likely not much carry over to Sullivan (incumbent).

Of course it’s all moot if Peltola hits 50%

Two side notes from Alaska:

1. The initiative to repeal RCV and, more importantly, the strict campaign finance disclosure laws is likely to fail. Musk spent a fair amount of money to try to repeal.

2. If you want some RCV fun then look at some of the races in Alaska’s Legislature. A fair few districts with 3-4 candidates hovering between 25-35%.

I think you are looking at it the wrong way… I don’t think you could look at it as “going Federman“ or “going Collins“

What happened last night is the Democrats took back the center. If they are smart and want to retain those seats in six years (and in two years for Congress) they will govern as such.

She spent a year or so as a part-time contributor to the KQRS Morning Show - THE dominant radio morning show in the Twin Cities. She showed her true colors on there the few times I listened to it when she was on. She showed zero empathy for pretty much everyone. She was a bad candidate from the start.
