Okay, here we go again (now that I am safely back home in Owego, N.Y., after an all-day drive in hard rain today)...
I tell my college hockey friends that, "Colgate appears to have no offense, a poor defense, and Reid Dyck plays well, but he can only do so much."
Is that accurate? It sounds harsh, but I was at both Stonehill games.
I know that I sound like a broken record, but... we take too many penalties.
It isn't about PPG Against on those penalties as much as it is the fact that we are not playing Offense for those two minutes. They add up.
Of course, Jake Schneider may wish to contradict me, and I won't argue with him. he he he
Lastly, I chose to follow Colgate to Stonehill this weekend. Warrior Ice Arena was #156 for me, lifetime. I spent $260 on hotel rooms (Hampton Beaches, N.H.) for two nights and maybe another $140 on gas. Add in the hockey tickets and downtown Boston parking and it was likely a $500 weekend. But, overall, it was a lot of fun... despite the two losses. It was entertaining college hockey with entertaining college hockey fans at the Boston Bruins practice rink. Then, on the way home, I took in the Royal Military College of Canada at Army West Point (N.Y.) this afternoon. For whatever reason, the exhibition game was terrible. I left after the first period, when it was Army 17-3 SOG and 3-1 score. I got home to Owego (in hard driving rain) to see that it was Army West Point over RMC of Canada, 6-1. It just wasn't fun (nor entertaining). Bottom line? As bad as our NCAA non-conference weekend was, it was still better hockey (read that 'more skilled') than some other games that I have seen recently.
Lastly, New Hampshire is Colgate's next opponent, next weekend, at home. UNH has so far lost to Quinnipiac in non-conference, 10-2, and tied Merrimack in Hockey East, 2-2. Both games were on the road. This weekend should wrap-up our reciprocal agreement with UNH. Last year, we won 3-2 and lost 3-2 in Durham, N.H.
