Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2026-27

Always nice to hang a banner. Was somewhat disappointing that of the PWHL players, only Jungels was able to attend.

They said over the PA that the other players couldn't be there because of PWHL commitments or something but that season doesn't even start until November. And aren't we between USA camps right now? The math ain't mathing but I'm guessing they'd have wanted to be there (here) if they could.

If they're already in training camp and their teams wouldn't let them leave for this, then their teams have their priorities screwed up. Especially with how much UW allows our best skaters to play for team USA.

I must (might) be missing part of the story here.

Oh well... time to move on anyway. Out with the old and in with the new.

Speaking of the new...

I don't generally sit and analyze while attending games. Last night, I made a conscious effort to watch some of the new skaters and combos.

Thought the line of Adela, Nela and Scannell were consistently noticeable and dangerous even before they started to score. Was cool to see Nela's first goal and thought the PA guy fumbled the announcement when he failed to mention that it was her first. Saw that Shappy quickly grabbed the puck for the keepsake. She had her celly dialed up for the second one and I'm guessing her confidence is on the rise. Watch out!

I feel like I saw at least 7 D get ice time including 4 of the frosh - even feel like I saw Beaudette but she doesn't show in the lines on USCHO. Would make sense as they need to get ready for next weekend when I believe that we'll be short a couple vets? Hard to get a read on that part of the game against an overmatched opponent, but good that they got ice time.

So glad the MJ rolls 4 lines or if not "rolls," he skates 4. Felt like Box was getting pushed around early but you'll have that with an undersized freshman and she got better as the game went on. Same with Kimbrel.

Thought Tremblay was very noticeable, but I guess she's expected to be. She's gonna be a good one.

Kelly Gobatenko... feel like she suffers from tunnel vision at times and generally defaults to trying to shoot or take the puck to the net. Saw a bit of that last weekend. Was pleased to see much better ice vision last night and she made or attempted several great passing plays in the offensive zone. Her headman to Hall for the partial break goal was fantastic.

That's it for now... guess I had some thoughts.

I miss players when their time is through, but I get excited to see new players start their journeys. Also love watching veterans who are now the juniors and seniors step into their new, more prominent roles.

Really hate the new 5 year eligibility rules.

To me it just showed a "Don't need you anymore " attitude from the graduated players.
A total lack of respect for the program that helped get you where you are today.
They have known about this evening for a long time and should have been here.... period.
One of them had the nerve to expect UW to PAY for them to attend..... yeah NO.

Pretty classless but just my opinion.

I'm surprised there wasn't a GoFundMe put out there for travel expenses for 1 former player! It seems there is a GoFundMe for everything relating to her and her family. I mean Mom has to sustain her lifestyle reaping the benefits of her daughter!

Getting to Madison isn’t cheap.
Did the school have a dinner or an event for the them why they were in town? It is a lot to fly in for just a banner raise if it wasn’t a weekend of activities fully funded by IM.
They aren’t NHL players making millions. I saw the Carolina hurricanes had their ring event the other night and their dinner was surf and turf. I understand they aren’t NHL players but if they wanted them to fly into town they should have made it on a weekend and a bit more enticing.

For everything those graduated seniors gave to the program on and off the ice, this thread is doing a surprisingly masterful job of turning a banner hanging home opener into a stream of negativity from a bunch of old men with access to a keyboard.

All of our lives are drastically different after graduating college, and expecting them all to come to an early October game for the banner hanging is absurd. They'll probably all happily come back for a reunion/anniversary in the future.

Asking for money to do it is admittedly lame, but for the rest? Thanks for the amazing memories and hope you're enjoying post-college life.

If it's true that they didn't have obligations keeping them away, it's a crappy thing that they weren't there.

UW could have and should have funded their travel to this. That amount of money is a rounding error in the AD budget or a few Metallica tickets.

I bet most in attendance, even those that aren't "old men" were surprised and slightly disappointed by their absence. Didn't ruin the night or anything but after O'Brien was able to show last year, I guess I took it for granted. My mistake.

Jungels and the rest (who aren't going to the PWHL) were able to make it.

Those 4 chose not to be there.

I have a lot of positive things to say about my experience last night (Usually I'm pizzing and moaning about things). First thing, after the dude scanned my parking pass, he kindly told me I couldn't part in this lot today, but he recommended I try lot 44 instead. Nicely done. The reserve seating areas where clearly marked. They were what Robert posted, not matching the seating layout in the purchasing dept, but clearly labelled. Perfect. THEY GOT RID OF THOSE HORRIBLE PAYMENT DEVICES I NTHE CONCESSIONS!!!!! YYEESS!
