Nazareth did make renovations over the summer, but I don't know what those renovations were other than building their own locker room and office space.

I have never been to Station 31 at all (it's relatively new and never had a reason to), and didn't even know it existed (always thought they were referring to Thomas Creek, which is now called Rochester Ice Center, because they were both in the same town). So, I can't comment on any before and after observations.

Because it becomes essentially their own rink, as they are the main occupants. Using Tim Horton's, even though there is more seating and they did get their own locker rooms and office space, they are essentially just another tenant amongst many others. And, it's much closer to their campus.
 
From what I've heard, the main reasons were to have a rink that is essentially their own (Logo at center ice, custom pregame presentation, purple features, etc.), more ice time for players to skate on their own, and newer facilities (M/W locker rooms, coaches' rooms, Lounge, AT rooms, Saunas, Video Classroom, Equipment Room). It also seems like there will be a big seating structure behind one end where Nazareth defends twice. Also, it will create a louder atmosphere for home games, which now probably can fit around 800 people compared to Tim Hortons, where it was north of 3500 which they are not getting.

Also, yes, closer to campus, which could lead to more students at games, which it seems they have struggled with.

Truly, Naz would never fill-up the old Bill Gray's... But what a mecca of hockey (on a number of levels) was that place. We had great fun watching the other rinks between Utica/Naz periods, and seeing the main rink from the bar and grill there.

I can't recall a better place to immerse oneself in every level of hockey than in that venue. The piles of stinky pads in the walkways just added to the atmosphere.
