Congrats Antonelli, but you got that because of McLaren mistakes. Seeing cars close fast and then just sit there makes for a boring race to watch.

I'm sure I'm jaded because I've watched plenty of races on banked tracks, but there's nothing special about that corner. Like may banked tracks, there's one line, and nothing else. And thanks to how dangerous it can be to go around, they have to keep an aero gap. So other than odd G's on the car, it's kind of pointless as a "feature". And the rest of the track is another high speed city track where you can't pass at all.

I hate to be so negative, but it certainly means that I wont make plans to see that live.

And the thing is, half the track is a "permanent" circuit, where they could have designed it any way they wanted to, without the restrictions of current streets and buildings. But they still blew it.

I think it’s turns 5 and 6 you don’t actually have to turn, just point the car straight and you make the curb on both.

And I thought NASCAR’s San Diego track would be the ugliest circuit of the year. Spike too soon.

Timing would work out better for them. I knew it was at least two years of Bottas and Checo to shake down the car, and with Herta struggling in F2 to the point where he basically told Cadillac to stuff F1, he's not going to go F2 racing again next year just to get his Super License points, having Ugo on deck would be a better fit.

Ugo does seem to have better prospects.

One thing I’ve noticed casually following is that Ugo seems to get overlooked compared to his peers like Goethe, Leon, and Slater despite putting up comparatively equal or better performances. Probably because of his height (he’s 6’3”) but being black (biracial actually since his father is white Italian) and American probably doesn’t help either.

Even watching the highlights of the last race the commentators were mostly glazing Slater the entire time.

He is way the hell taller than 6'3". Just look at him when he stands next to other people. He towers over them. He has a basketball body, clear as day. I have no idea how the heck he fits into these junior formula cars.

His parents are very well off. His mother was a super model. And his father is a top executive at a modeling agency (that's how they met). So, even if he doesn't get picked up, they can afford his F2 ride. The key is whether a top team has a seat available.

Honestly, I've seen so many different heights listed for him He is 19 and likely still growing so who knows?

I know about his parents and that he has money, which is definitely helpful to his career and will certainly get him an F2 ride, but I just find it questionable that he doesn't seem to be getting the same amount of attention and opportunity as his peers.

He had a relatively poor 2024 (Formula Regional) and 2025 (F3) seasons, with Macau essentially being his only real accomplishment in those two years. Slater, as an example, won titles in every car series in the first year he entered them in his career, until just now in F3. You go two years struggling while others are winning championships, can put a damper on the attention you are getting.
 
The 2027 schedule has been released and there will be ten sprint races on the calendar. Including a sprint at Monaco of all places. Also, we're just ignoring the conflict in the Middle East, eh?

Even more mind blowing, is their Plan B. If the first two races can't be held, they will move the three afterwards (Australia, China, Japan) to earlier in the year. Of course, this decision will be made as late as possible. So, no one but locals go to these events? No need to worry about overseas travelers who booked airlines and hotels months and months in advance (not to mention all the tour groups who block off reservations like a year in advance)?
