So... unemployment has been rising, inflation is stubbornly stagnant, and the fed is debating raising rates to try and wrangle things in.

So lets just crash the rates!

Whelp, our son just got a quick lesson on tariffs. He is playing hockey up in Canada, ordered something from a US seller on Sideline Swap and had to pay a $20 tariff and import fee before he could pick up his package.

Consumers do pay it! LOL!

Had this debate among our group at a White Sox game recently and was curious how others approached this. The pay tablet's automatic options were 20%, 22%, 25%, and "custom"...

This may be the thing that goes on the record for breaking me. Having to pay $6 on two beers (the cheapest option at 20%) just seemed excessive, especially when making multiple stops throughout the day for food/beverage. Pouring a beer here isn't worth 40-60% more than what I pay at my local dive bar ($2/drink or $5 for 3+ beers, but a much higher percentage of the price). Are we ok keeping it at $2/pour at a venue? Or are the servers entitled to the inflated tips because of the inflated pricing? Food is just as bad in these places.

Just curious how this thought experiment plays out here on USCHO....

At sit-down restaurants, I try to tip 20-25% unless the service was nonexistent. When I know the employees are paid the tipped wage, I think of it as my way of practicing socialism. Bars, I tip 15-20% for beverages (unless I'm in Europe, then it's 1-2 Euros total).
 
They have these new things, Trump is just learning about them, they’re called “convoys,” great big lines of semi-trucks just going up and down the road.
 
Brent crude went to $109 yesterday before dropping back to $107 overnight. The Houthis have damaged the pumping station of that east-west pipeline the Saudis were using to circumvent the Strait.

That maritime site does note barrel transit through the Strait now exceeds 10M barrels a day, which should help moderate price. Of course, even after you get through the Strait the Houthis are now a threat to shipping transitting the Red Sea.

Here is a fun primer on the Yemeni Civil War. The Yemeni Government-Houthi Rebel conflict should be super easy, barely an inconvenience to settle. It began more than 900 years ago. It is a combination of: (a) Sunni vs Shia, (b) cosmopolitan, urbanized shore and river peoples vs backwards, rural interior peoples, (c) Norman-type colonializers vs Saxon-type oppressed natives, (d) proxy war for regional hegemony between Saudi Arabia and Iran, (e) meta-proxy war for regional dominance between the US/Israel and Russia/Iran/Hezbollah/Hamas.

Also everybody is crosscut by clans with thousand-year old blood feuds. Good stuff.

At this point, just bring on the mega-prices... I can survive, albeit it will hurt...

As for many of the MAGAs in my area, who check all the stereotypes, well, FUCK'EM... The gloves need to come off and we need to bring them down and then kick them while they are down...

I saw a gigantic gas guzzler on the road today with AZ plate: PARDON3D. He also had an airborne air assault sticker on his windshield. That should come in handy during the race war if he needs to paratroop into South Central.

I'll be honest in that a lot of my annoyance currently is also divided among class. Many people around me in their late 30s to early 50s have been able to get onto east street and never had to face financial hardship... They truly believed that the good times will just keep on going..

So yea, its kind of fun to watch them be crushed by huge vehicle payments, property tax bills, and the idea that maybe they won't be able to take lavish vacations...

I eagerly anticipate the sob stories from my neighbors about how their f350 costs more to drive to work than they make working. Maybe they can resell their Trump flags for extra cash.

This makes me so sad that my MAGA neighbor drives an ugly (but practical!) Focus sedan. But she's a woman, and unfortunately not a bright one.
