Business, Economics, and Taxes 2: That's Why We Fight to Take the Means Back

Doing a little quick math, it looks like the investment was made in WTI, not Brent (unless they got a killer discount). The chart for WTI is almost identical, just 4-5% lower on price.

They bought in at $91.66 which means that investment has already yielded $12 million. If Goldman Sachs estimates are correct, in the next week they're looking at another $60 million or so.

I'm old enough to remember Hillary getting raked over the coals because she turned a $20,000 investment in cattle futures into $100,000...

Seeing the market take a bath this week got me thinking... isn't the second half of Septeber and all of October generally a down period for the markets?

We're in for a wild end of the year.

Heating oil prices in winter... the new market inefficiency.

Remember when Dominoes took out full page ads apologizing for being the by-word for shit pizza? Those were fun.

I had Dominoes pizza a couple times since that when a work event was badly catered, and it was... better. It was a 4, but that's up from a 1.

I have not seen a brick and mortar DP forever -- did they go under?

Edit: nm, I clicked the storefinder and there are 20 within 3 miles of my house.

20.

They are all in the direction I never drive.

Been having a "discussion" with a distant family member who is a full blown MAGAt. He feels the oil companies are ripping us off because a barrel of oil is at this price, but gas and diesel are at this price. I asked him if MAGAts were full free markets and capitalism, because what he sounded like he wanted was government safeguards put in place (SOCIALISM) or nationalization of the oil industry (COMMUNISM). Oh boy, I think his brain, what little bit is left, exploded......

He told me to do my research, and I said I have. Not that it matters, I am college educated, have some background in economics and understand world markets and commodities. I don't even think he got a High School diploma, I think he ended up sliding out with a certificate of attendance.

They run enough specials for 3-7 topping pizzas that makes it worth it. Unfortunately I’m in a sea of chains so it’s really picking the best of the average. There are a couple good indy places, but they’re far enough out that’s more for a dine-in night out than quick pick up.

1. Surely he didn't blame the oil companies for spikes during Biden's term
2. "He told me to do my research" - famous last words of every MAGAt which is something they themselves have never bothered to do aside from consuming FNC, OANN and Newsmaxx 24/7

Question for the class regarding the evolution of tipping culture:

Do y'all tip a percentage or a flat fee when you get food/drinks at a place with known inflated prices, like a stadium, concert venue, casino, amusement park, ski hill, etc.?

Had this debate among our group at a White Sox game recently and was curious how others approached this. The pay tablet's automatic options were 20%, 22%, 25%, and "custom"...

This may be the thing that goes on the record for breaking me. Having to pay $6 on two beers (the cheapest option at 20%) just seemed excessive, especially when making multiple stops throughout the day for food/beverage. Pouring a beer here isn't worth 40-60% more than what I pay at my local dive bar ($2/drink or $5 for 3+ beers, but a much higher percentage of the price). Are we ok keeping it at $2/pour at a venue? Or are the servers entitled to the inflated tips because of the inflated pricing? Food is just as bad in these places.

Just curious how this thought experiment plays out here on USCHO....

I don't care how much the product costs, I tip based on time. If the server needs to run back and forth they get a huge tip, if they draw a pint they get little. They get the same tip whether it's a Michelin star restaurant or the local gastro. TBH they get more at the latter; at the former they're pretty enough to escort for the difference.

Fuck affluence culture.

I haven't bought anything at a stadium or a concert since 1977 -- WTF would anyone? -- so no idea what the custom is there.

Tipping depends on the situation.

I don't tip for a bottle of water. I might tip for a mixed drink. I do tip for meals. How much depends on the quality of everything- taste and effort. But I try not to tip over 20%, since that's already 5% over the long time 15%. Prices have gone up enough that 20% should be plenty. I don't need double inflation.
