College Football 2025

The Big Ten is set to pass a rule Tuesday that doesn't allow players to return from the NFL and play for one of its schools, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Any player who has declared for the NFL draft and did not withdraw, appeared on an NFL roster or signed a contract with a pro league cannot be on a Big Ten roster, sources told Thamel.

The SEC issued a similar statement and will be meeting Wednesday to discuss.

 
Big 12 athletic directors agreed to ban professional athletes from returning to schools in the conference across all sports on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
The agreement is pending approval from Faculty Athletics Representatives.

Saw discussion that this is more like when a couple Brown athletes sued the Ivies over not giving athletic scholarships, but the court ruled dismissed that it wasn't an anti-trust violation because they could choose a school that did offer athletic scholarships.

Now if every single conference ends up banning professional athletes that changes things, but some of the legal experts seem to think that individual conferences doing it is a different pathway versus the NCAA making the rule.

So professional squash players won't be able to return to college to play? Bummer.
