Investing

I just rebalanced my IRA so I won't be looking at it for a while.

SPCX went on another roller coaster ride today, cratering to 111, back above 116 before crashing back to 110 before closing at 112. Options players can make bank with this volatility, but it's a high risk game.

SPCX dropped to 107.57, almost an all-time low, before closing slightly above that.

I decided the risk is worth it and began playing LEAPs - basically bought long term put options at $95 and am selling $94 puts for next week when the price is low, then buying them back when the price rebounds. Then reselling when the price goes back down. I've grown my portfolio 20% this week alone and have almost earned back all the money I invested through sales. So even if it somehow never makes it to 95 I will still make money.

Monday and Tuesday should be wild ahead of earnings on Tuesday afternoon. Then the next round of early investors will drop almost 2 billion shares on Friday.

I'm not as highly regarded as the typical /wsb user. ;)

When it comes to naked options it's easy to lose everything if you don't get the timing right, but LEAPs work well unless the market completely turns against you.

SPCX and AMD both down 8% after earnings reports.

Ugh. Why is Disney doing the earnings call before open tomorrow? That's like 530AM out there. Are the numbers so bad they're trying to hide them?

Maybe it's like my first boss out of college, dragging everyone in at 7am on Mondays just so that the entire department could be on a 7:30 team conference call with India. 😣

Volume as of 11:45AM

SPCX $150 8/7 Call - 12,423
SPCX $200 8/7 Call - 7,434
SPCX $250 8/7 Call - 5,646
SPCX $300 8/7 Call - 2,929
SPCX $330 8/7 Call - 62,475

People out here just lighting money on fire. Even /wsb isn't this regarded...

Can you explain?
You pay whatever the price is for an option. In this case, you pay about $20 for the right to buy 100 shares of SpaceX for $150 on or before August 7. In order the be profitable, the value of SpaceX has to be $150 or more. Currently it's about $115. If the price doesn't hit $150 the option expires worthless. If it does, you can either buy the 100 shares or sell the option to someone who will. The price is not going to come close to $150. Much less $300. Not only would SPCX need to triple in price in three days, I don't think the market is prepared for what is going to happen when a billion shares hit the market tomorrow.

These people are just throwing money away.

Oh, and the people at r/wsb call themselves "regarded" because if they wrote a T instead of a G they could get banned from reddit.

All the sell orders for the unlocks are already placed, right? In what order do they execute? That's going to matter considerably.

Luck of the draw. Whoever has the fastest computer to execute the sell order. If I was a SPCX employee sitting on 10000 shares I had received as compensation over the past few years I'd have queued up this order weeks ago.

Cathie Wood is going to prop up the stock today by sinking untold millions of ARK into it. All we need now is a blessing from Cramer and we're good to go.
