Holy Shit! Rush kicked so much ass last night in Chicago it was incredible!!!

Geddy Lee’s vocals were better than I’ve ever heard them going back to the first time I saw them on the Presto tour.

It was my birthday yesterday so my daughter comes by after work and gives me a ticket to the Rush concert Monday night at the Garden. Going with her and her husband.

I love vinyl through a good to great hi-fi system, but CD will always be the gold standard for me. The warmth and crackle you get from vinyl feels good, but it’s grounded (for me) in the nostalgia of listening when my dad was playing his old records when I was tiny.

CDs will always be closest to what you’d hear live if you have a good system and your setting set right. It is crystal clear and blemish free, provided it hasn’t been abused of course.

I don’t really want to start a debate because I honestly love them both. They’re both light years above the super compressed bullshit we’re all fed now through our screens.

Awesome!! You won’t be disappointed! They have so much energy and joy for the music on this tour it’s like a celebration each night.
 
One of the most amazing one-song live performances ever. Before going on the band were told due to other acts running long they would only have 5 minutes to play and were asked to not play the song they were about to which runs 7 minutes. They said no we got this.

I saw Rush on the Presto tour and for a total of 10-12x afterwards. Always great. Especially on the Snakes and Arrows and Clockwork Angels tours. They were just next level great.

Anika stepped into an almost impossible situation and has handled it with so well it’s impossible to imagine (for me) anyone else handling the job (including Danny Carey or Stewart Copeland). She’s an incredible drummer. Just lighting it up back there but probably even more important imo is she brings levity to the shows too. She’s kind of like Alex that way. I can’t wait to hear your review of the show!

One correction -- I read further. The acts didn't run long, the band understood going in they would have 2 fewer minutes than the song runtime. They were used to doing it live faster than on disc but they'd never done it that fast. So they did practice beforehand, but then when the song started singer/yodeler Thijs van Leer surprised everybody by going even faster. You can see it register immediately with the drummer and then a measure later guitarist Jan Akkerman just says fuck it and accelerates even more. That's why by the end of the song van Leer actually has extra time to vamp -- they came in under.

I give the drummer so much credit because through the entire thing he's unflappable even with van Leer and Akkerman swerving back and forth between cadences trying to make each other break, but the drummer is always just knitting it back together. That's probably why when the song ends everybody on stage just nods at him as the hero of the night.

What a spectacularly wonderful and stupid and pointless and beautiful display of sheer joy.

I'd also like to note the drummer is chewing gum the whole time at a complete different time signature. Those guys' brains just don't work like ours.
