Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2026-27

How does Wisconsin even have room for an eight-player class? Especially given that at least a couple of the seniors would certainly be able to stay a fifth year in Madison if they wanted it.
 
I don't mind kicking the rodents while they're down, but it'd be nice to extract some talent from that other team. They are the real threat.
 
The fifth year potential for the 27 class is SIGNIFICANT and will cause a lot of hand wringing for the would be incoming freshman.
If the Seniors stay ( and most will ) where do you find the room and money for the incoming class ?
There will be lots of movement all across college hockey.
Do the seniors leave for NIL money elsewhere with MJ not willing to offer it.
 
Just a heads-up and a guess: last year, ticket sales started on July 28th - a Monday - with no prior notice at all. The comparable date this year would be a week from tomorrow, but I guess tomorrow is also a possibility. (Here's hoping that there is no expansion of the "reserved seating" sections.)

Yes, please, let's set aside more seats that are officially "sold" but not occupied because, of course, having a smaller crowd "improves the fan experience."

Assuming that outdoor game is true, won’t they likely wait until that is announced since STH will lose a home game against Ohio. Can’t remember the timeline last time with the Wrigley game.

You can see the timing of it all in the 2024-25 comment thread: ticket sales started July 30 - with the price increase commented on, of course - while the Wrigley games (men as well) announced on Aug 14 or 15 (making the price increase all the worst, because one fewer game; Wrigley was not included).

Whether or not they stay is the coach's decision.

... unless they have gotten their degree, and want to go to the PWHL instead of playing the 5th year. For example, had it happened a year earlier, would KK and/or Laila and/or Simms have stayed for a 5th year?

This will be similar to the "extra COVID year", in that there will be a sort-of transition period while the initial disruption works its way through, before new 'normal' is established.

The only two players who have left a year of eligibility on the table to go to the PWHL attended schools without much in the way of graduate programs. Also both were Canadian. Abbey Murphy passed on being the #1 pick to stay an extra year. If Harvey and Edwards and Simms were eligible, they would have continued in college.

College is the smart play.
Of course it’s the coaches option to accept the player and make them fit the budget.
Wisconsin has 4 absolute locks that any coach would want.
NIL money will play a big part as well.
