Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Think this team can be fine down the middle, but I'm mostly concerned about the lack of depth on the LW side. Unless you're swapping a couple guys to their off-wing it looks a little weak over there right now.

The Krebs addition to the backend is a bit of a headscratcher. 23 year old ECHL guy as a depth filler?

Hard disagree. Scholle isn’t a natural center and got exposed last year. Lipinski struggled to make the lineup down the stretch. Komarov is 4th liner. James is a depth guy/4th liner. Max Scott is good but he wasn’t as effective as his brother, Breen, or Renwick the year prior. When he got hurt they had no natural center playing their top 9. Makway projects as a depth guy.

Not good enough unless they are pigeon-holing someone else into that role. It was a major weakness last year and they seem to be relying on 2 guys to make a major jump which I think is irresponsible.

I was saying that with the assumption that Scholle moves to the wing and they run some combo of Scott, Fowler, Lipinski, Komarov down the middle which is solid in my eyes.

I do not want to see Scholle taking faceoffs any more, it's been brutal watching him get forced into that spot.

Fowler hasn’t played center beyond a game or two at Maine. He takes the occasional draw. But that’s precisely my point. Putting players in positions they aren’t accustomed to instead of addressing it. They’ve had 2 years. Running out of time before the team starts practicing to change course.
