2026 PWHL Draft

I'm shocked that Adrian and MSU Club girls didn't get drafted? Weird!
I'm sure they all did it as some sort of college prank/joke. Whatever, they are just dumb kids. It did get their names in all of the papers and draft previews.

I did talk to one D1 player who declared for the draft, who was a top line player on her team, and she said she did not hear from any PWHL team prior to the draft asking even the most basic questions or background research, so the pool of draft eligibles was way deeper than needed to fill six rounds I would say.

235 players declared for the draft, largely D1 alumnae and European players. Only a handful of players below that rank with most of the DIII players declaring themselves being the top senior goalies in the division

Simms going at 8 was like falling to 2nd round for her.
Toronto was shocked to have her fall in their lap.
Why would they be "shocked" when it was supposedly the case that "There [were] at least 6 teams that have said 'Absolutely not' on Simms"?

You're saying you knew something about "at least" SIX PWHL teams that the management of a seventh actual PWHL team involved didn't know?!?

LOL!

So “at least 6 were a hard no” and she goes 8th. Hmmm… seems more than an accurate statement.

If you had any 'guts', you would have named those six teams prior to the actual draft, so we could all have seen the extent and accuracy of your 'inside info". But no. You "inside info" guys just post vague nonsense; "I know something you don't know" crap that doesn't actually say much of anything. Simply to puff yourselves up. Guess what? NOBODY is impressed.

NOBODY thought Simms would go before Harvey.
NOBODY thought Simms would go before Murphy.
NOBODY thought Simms would go before Janecke.
NOBODY thought Simms would go before Laila.

I guess MAYBE some might have guessed fifth. But even that was not close to being a sure thing, by any stretch.

"Dropping" in a draft is Aaron Rodgers being expected to go in the top five, and falling to 28th, of whatever it was.

Once more I will ask my questions, and once more, you'll evade answering them:

Just take the L. Simms was taken about where she had been projected to go all along. Why? There were better players ahead of her. Occam's razor.

This notion that you have inside info from even 1 PWHL FO is amusing, but 6 is just comical. Dial back the BS, please.

If they were shocked, they didn't have any comprehension where the players were going to fall ahead of them. Clearly your anti-Simms bias is getting the best of you.

Serious question for Badger fans: how would you compare Simms and Watts? From a distance, I thought of both as being elite offensive producers, top-level as finishers, but not necessarily having the all-around games of people like Decker and Duggan and able to make teammates better to the same extent. Watts had an ability to find the open ice in front of the net, and Simms would rise when it mattered most.

Lots of biases baked into the rankings for sure. One player was ranked as high as 11 and went in the low 30's. Another player ranked in the 5O's went in the mid 20's. It's an inexact exercise.

I'd say that fair on all accounts.

I went to the web site to look at blocked shots numbers, expecting to find not a lot, and getting maybe even fewer, LOL. Watts maybe a bit better at blocking shots, but neither of them anywhere close to Eden or O'Brien, etal. Watts can be magical with the puck, and there's no denying Simms has a "clutch" gene. But you're not playing either for their defense.

(An abiding image in my head of Duggen is her out near the blue line, maybe on a power play, making a diving poke check and preventing a breakaway.)

Great question. After much deliberation, I'd pick Watts over Simms. The only caveat to that is Simms was on a deeper team, so maybe her impact was muted a bit by that.

Watts single handedly allowed you to set a forum record for bad puns, so I'd guess she has a soft spot in your memories.

Thank you both for the thoughts. It's only that there have been so many over the years that I wouldn't place either on the first team of all-time Badger nemeses.

Simms was a clutch sniper. I'd take her straight up shot over Watts. But Watts was one of my favorite Badgers forwards ever. Creativity, skating, puck handling, and vision made her a joy to watch at all times in the offensive zone.

Before KK took seeing the ice and being a step ahead of everyone else to another level, I saw some of that from Watts on the offensive end at least.
