Anna Maria in trouble

Anna Maria's size and make up put them in a pretty tough spot. Know they have a good nursing, CJ, and a pretty renowned 'fire science' program (really random but was the only thing I ever heard about them besides hockey), but it's a dense higher ed market in Mass and around Worcester. Hoping the state is able to help them find a path forward but they unfortunately won't be the last to close if the enrollment cliff keep growing. The AmCats have been on a solid run in a really short time in the MASCAC and can put up a fight any night of the week. Despite the rivalry with Plymouth, would be a shame to see a budding team disappear.

Anna Maria has been "on the list" of schools that I thought would be in danger of closing for a decade plus now. It's honestly impressive they have staved it off this long. They've seen some decent league success as well in some of the marquee sports like football, men's hockey, men's basketball and baseball.

I have a couple of friends that work in higher ed marketing/communications at some "nearby" schools to Anna Maria and both schools are in the process of launching emergency transfer ad campaigns targeting Anna Maria students. It appears the writing is very much on the wall for the AMCATS.

Anna Maria has been a dumpster fire for a long time. It was no secret in higher ed. A few years back they were on the verge of losing accreditation. At the time, I viewed them starting hockey as a last ditch effort; looks like I may have been right.

Absolute shame that coaches, parents, advisors, etc. let kids choose to go there. The slightest bit of research could've saved these kids from what will surely be a trying time.

Not a great sign if other schools are already prepping for their closure. Saw the news about Hampshire College this morning too which is unfortunate. The WBJ article about Anna Maria said there's been 24 closures and consolidations in MA from 2014 to 2022. After Eastern Nazarene as the 25th I believe, guess we now have a 26th shut with another on the horizon (unless I missed any others).
