Wisconsin Hockey 25-26 Hastings Year 3 - Turning the Corner?

I think this is really what most people talk about when they say they miss the WCHA; basically the 80s/early 90s. After Michigan St, Notre Dame, and Michigan left in 81 but before St. Cloud, Bemidji, Minnesota St, and Omaha joined.

WCHA was a very unstable conf save for that 80s and early 90s period. Even then, both Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech spent big chunks in the WCHA.

And really, its the core of Wisconsin, Rodentsota, Sioux, Denver, and UMD that people are talking about they talk about the WCHA. So 5 teams.
Yes!

To me it would be UW, rats, Sioux, CC, Denver, UMD, Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. The good old days? Each generation will have theirs but to me 80’s and early 90’s WCHA was the premier conference in college hockey.

Got started in the early 80s with UW, UND, UM, UMD, Denver and CC. If I remember right Wisconsin public tv even broadcast some away games - remember watching games in barns like Williams Arena in Minneapolis, the giant old airplane hanger that DU played in, and of course the old Engelstad Arena (nee Winter Sports Center) in Grand Forks.

I do know one of the Sioux fan posters has passed. MNS (or MinnesotaNorthStar). He passed a while ago. IIRC, he was air traffic control somewhere and died of a heart attack. Really nice guy, was sad for those of us that had met him.

Oh gawd, did ESPN really play out a regular season SEC baseball game btwn 21 TN and unranmed Vandy over the hockey regional final between Western vs Denver?

Wow. I have no other words, just wow.

Have to remember, they are basically the SEC network. Need an SEC team to have a hockey program for hockey to take precedence.
Oh I definitely know that...it just amazes me that they would put priority on a mid season ho hum baseball game over a regional final bwtween 2 of the top college hockey prgrams.

If they shifted it to ESPNU, many people dont get that bc it is in a difft price tier on regular cable.

FWIW it went to ESPNews.

Oh yeah and fun fact... we drove the width of NoDak last summer on our way to Montana for a trout trip and because of the old Board days, I was expecting a desolate hellscape. Had never been to NoDak before.

It was gorgeous in its own way. Lots of green rolling prairie and pot lakes everywhere. Looked quite western and I can tell you, there was more than one tree. The badlands at Teddy Roosevelt Natty Park were stunning - prettier by far than the ones in SoDak.

Honestly, the worst part of the entire trip was the return across southern Minnesota. Looked like Illinois with nothing but boring farmland.
In the old days, you would have posted a pic of a straggly looking guy with rotting, broken teeth sitting on a toilet in front of a mobile home and wearing a Sioux sweater. Now you say kind things after spreading your contagion across Gods Country. How did they let you cross the Red?

Haha

That photo is still out on Imgur somewhere but I don't recall the link. I liked to poke fun at Sioux fan while I actively disliked Gopher fan - mainly coz Sioux fan could take a joke and Gopher fan always had a stick up their ass.

I had some fun Sioux creations.

Good to see that you are still out there.

My photoshop days are behind me... a relic of a bygone Board era.

It’s been a long time since I posted on uscho, but I saw the UW thread and thought it might be a good time to check it out. In those days a Sioux/Badger FF game thread would have been epically fun. Seeing Gurth(olfin)’s name put a big smile on my face. But for hockey ignorance in the publishing world, some of those illustrated posts of yours could have earned a Pulitzer.

But even a Pulitzer wouldn’t make up for the deep shame of being a Badger hockey fan.
