Wisconsin Hockey 25-26 Hastings Year 3 - Turning the Corner?

Milewski confirms what is written above: OSU, ECAC: Princeton and Clarkson. If both OSU and Princeton / Clarkson win their auto bid, the Badgers are out.

I love how we have to put our trust in Michigan to save any hope of making the tourney. Ugh.

Charlie Stramel up for Hobey Baker.

I was definitely wrong about him. When he left I thought it was because it was akin to the Alex Leavitt or Cruz Lucious situations where he maybe didn’t agree with the coaching philosophy. But Nightingale’s teams are very disciplined so…Whatever the issue…. It is patently obvious he’s a hell of a good hockey player and Wisconsin sure could have used him on the top line.

I’d love to know why Hastings didn’t put him in the top 6.

This will be REALLY interesting. If the rats hire a coach who immediately gets them back in the top 2-3………..you see where I’m going with this…
I would have to think Raboin at Augustana will be the front runner. Hastings will need to improve the team further as the Big7 gets better. Can he do it?

Here's a huge hypothetical: if Hastings was still at Mankato and kept them on the trajectory they were on, would he be a gopher head coach candidate?
I would say yes. There are a lot of names flying around, including Strand at Mankato and Larson at St. Cloud. Minnesota wants a Minnesota guy, though, I believe. Take that for what it is worth.

WI and MN are light years apart on recruiting though. The top high end players in MN all want to go to MN. WI has nowhere near the hockey talent pool in HS that MN has. Which in the NIL/CHL era, could actually benefit WI. MN has always restricted itself to MN kids by and large.

I like to think if Motzko had some studded class coming in next year and serious NIL funds to play with, he may not be gone.

In some way, I think we are discounting the huge rebuild that was required at WI for Hastings. We are still clearly a few key pieces and some consistency away.

It really is going to come down to which teams are willing to shell out NIL cash and get the best CHL/NCAA transfers. Right now it appears that is Michigan St., Penn St, and Michigan.

I hope WI doesnt fall into the trap of filling rosters up with guys that are "high performers" in the AHA/CCHA or low end of ECHA. I jave seen enough that those transfers, at best produce contributor/role player guys but no legit performers in the Big10.

I dont think there is any way Stramel wins it. But, I still would love to see a post mortem from him on what the big difference was between Hastings and Nightengale.

Just tough to see after him being a Badger for 2 years.

As I watch wiaa basketball at the kohl center where would the badgers have played had they hosted the big 7 championship?

When it has happened in the past, they played at the Alliant Energy Center. It's been awhile since that has happened. I don't know if that is still a possibility.

Last time that happened, they played a series vs St. Cloud at the coliseum and....no one showed up. It was like 3-5K ppl.
