St. Lawrence U.

Back to reality. I was in attendance tonight in Hamilton. Couple observations Brekke sucks and needs to be fired asap. Second Andrew brown needs to be cut from the team after this season. The guy is a turnover machine combined with his inability to control himself with major penalties. I watched him cross check a Colgate player in the throat literally in front of the ref. Last the defensive play by this team is absolutely awful. The entire defense needs to go with the exception of Santilli. He’s the only one I would consider keeping next season. The rest need to go.
The positives are we have some good young forwards to build around.
Agreed on Santilli. As for Brown, I'm willing to give a break to a freshman. Regarding the rest of the defense, I'll say that I was hoping Lammens could turn into his dad--maybe he needs another year. The others? Thanks for your service.

SLU fans: our record vs Harvard is 1 win in the last 10 games, so I calculate a solid 10% chance this weekend. I hope the team beats expectations in Cambridge, and if any fans make the trip, I suggest a visit to the Museum of Bad Art during free time. It's a hoot.

Is the expectation still that Brekke will be gone after the season? Not sure if any of you SLU fans have heard anything. From the outside looking in, I'd certainly make a change

If you would've asked me this the weekend before the Clarkson games I would've said he was as good as gone. But we are now 5-4-1 in our last 10 games and have managed a big turn around. It appears as though they've figured something out. That combined with the fact that this team is extremely young leads me to believe they might just give him another shot to see if the success at the end of the year continues. I think they are also afraid of losing some of the recruiting class that is coming in for this year if the coach is gone. Which is looking very solid. I honestly wouldn't be surprised either way.

After the Clarkson weekend, the difference between what I saw early on in the Canisius game and what I see now is massive, even with the last two losses. Losing recruits is a real possibility with a regime change, so maybe Brekke does get another shot. Beating Harvard at Cambridge would help!

We are so young and we do have quite a bit of talent in this years freshman class and next years looks even more promising. That why I honestly think it's almost impossible for this team not to improve drastically over the next few years.

If we don't then it would be as clear as day what the problem really is. Time will tell.

I believe his contract is up at the end of this season. I would expect him gone. It would be inconceivable to invest any more money into Brekke. He’s proven he can’t win at SLU. If they keep him that would be an indication that the school simply doesn’t care about men’s hockey. Which I know they do
As far as recruits go yeah you will lose some but depending how quickly you get a new coach in he could probably keep a good size of the class. Sez you know all about that with what happened in Troy getting lang in late. The big ones are Bennett and charron. This year’s recruits would be ledrew, svarstrom, santilli, and #9.
Brekke simply isn’t the guy for the job. The proof is undeniable. Giving him a new contract cause he’s won a few games at the end of the season is ridiculous. His W/L record is horrendous in canton. Time to give someone else a shot

This is the final year of his contract.

I can't argue against most of this, but I will say that I wouldn't be surprised if they do give him a 1 year extension. It's pretty clear that this team has improved drastically since the Clarkson weekend and there is almost a 0% chance that they won't improve drastically next year. If they don't then it will be pretty obvious what the problem is and it will be the final nail in his coffin, so to speak.

If it does end up coming down to this, then I would also add Pierson to the list of must keeps. He's impressed me with his tenacity, his passing ability and he's a hard worker. Posthumus to the list of must keep recruits as well. I think he's an underrated forward or at least he appears to be.

It’s definitely possible they give him a 1 year extension. I really hope they don’t. It’s just time to move forward and get this program back to relevance. Brekke had his time

Yes Pierson as well I forgot about him.
He’s a good player. Posthumus and the kid playing at shattuck st Mary’s look solid.

The worst seven years in SLU hockey's 100-year history (including the horrific 70s when the program was going to be dropped to DIII),...enough said. Time to turn the page and start a real rebuild.

Good grief, Golden--I was hoping never to hear "the 70's" again! Put Morris and Brekke together, and what do you get? 92-185-34. OUCH!
In the 70's, Paul Patten's record was 94-127-5, over 8 years. YIKES! We will do better, somehow, right? Joe Marsh, are you listening? Pierre? Somebody?

Sorry for bringing up the 70's but the 70's actually look good compared to what we have gone through the past decade with Morris & Brekke. 10 years without an ounce of support from the Administration and here we are... just sad

Now you hit the nail on the head. Both Morris and Brekke were not allowed to get rid of the players which could not only help a program turn the corner, but also, the players with "toxic attitudes". Is that a Coaches' fault? In my opinion no. Some of this program is owned by the Administration and some by the Coach - not an ideal combination for success at any level.

Valiant effort...time to start the rebuild begins now.
I'll say. And this from a Harvard fan who thought for sure you guys were going to win tonight. When your two forwards were left alone in front of Charrette with the puck in OT, I thought that was it. The irony of it all is that Casey Severo had a terrible night on faceoffs with one exception; the winning goal. Honestly, there is very little difference between Harvard and SLU at this point. We're all very disappointed with Donato. Three straight years of subpar coaching and poor recruiting have left us as a second division team. So I do feel your pain.

At least you have a goalie for another year. Maybe you can recruit a kid instead of bringing in a portal transfer that can take over in a year.
They have Trenten Bennett coming next year. Devils 4th rounder went 99th overall.
Issue is will they keep him if they fire Brekke? A real conundrum

He's 6ft 8in--I had a fraternity brother who was 6'8", and he was the tallest guy I had ever seen in person. But we pegged him for our frat bball team, not hockey! PS: he didn't play either one. Anyway, move over Fedotov, here comes Bennett!
