Well first round is this week. Predictions/comments?
Despite all my pessimism about the team, Minnesota sweeps the first round for the first time since 2023.

Based on what we've seen from European players in past years returning from the Olympics, don't expect those who competed for medals to be at their usual level during the WCHA Tournament. Some are able to bounce back and regain their form by the NCAA Tournament, but the emotional tank is pretty empty after the Olympics. I'm guessing that the NHL and PWHL players will also take a couple of weeks to settle into their groove.Murphy will be on a mission!
The BADger USA ladies arrived home late last night. MJ is giving Edwards and Harvey the day off today. I presume they all will play this weekend unless a player asks to not play. It's more important that they are ready for next weekend than this weekend.Based on what we've seen from European players in past years returning from the Olympics, don't expect those who competed for medals to be at their usual level during the WCHA Tournament. That makes sense; Simms didn't get any ice time last Thursday, so she hasn't played in a week, McNaughton barely played at all, and Sapo hasn't played in over a week. Physically, they should be ready to go - jet lag notwithstanding. KK and Laila had a more physically demanding couple of weeks. The BADger USA ladies arrived home late last night. 5holefrenzy says gophers get swept.
Let's go Sirens!
Anyone who has to face Gascon or Kyrkko has something to worry about.Yes, based on regular season record, so Wisconsin and OSU have little to worry about
They do reseed. #1 plays the lowest seed that makes the semis. Interesting to see if the Huskies can finish it at Ridder. Would like to see them play from in front early tomorrow and ratchet up the pressure on the Gophers.Assuming that St Cloud finishes the job - I still doubt they will - does the final four next weekend get 're-seeded'? That is, Wisconsin would get St Cloud and not Duluth?
My first thought was that any goal at any time in a series where there figures to be little scoring is great, no matter when it happens. But looking closely, SCSU's offense actually improved when they lost their Olympians, in that they only scored more than two goals once in nine games in January, but did so three times closing out the six regular season games in February (or maybe that's just a result of playing Bemidji).Would like to see them play from in front early tomorrow and ratchet up the pressure on the Gophers.
Was at the Saturday game in St. Cloud when Badgers lost the late lead and it went to a shootout - while we helped their cause they see definitely showed more counter punch capability than in past years. My first thought was that any goal at any time in a series where there figures to be little scoring is great, no matter when it happens. Anyway, I only watched from the third period on, but it was actually a high-speed game. The Huskies packed it in around their own net in the D zone, but they have enough speed to counter when the opportunity presents itself. I thought SCSU controlled the OT, beyond one nice net drive by Kaiser where Kyrkkö denied her on the short side.
We can talk about goalies being robbed for All-WCHA placement, but IMO, there's no way Kyrkkö isn't one of the top three goalies in the league. I get that she didn't play many games, but if teams could pick goalies out of a draft for the WCHA tournament, she's not available for whatever team picks fourth and beyond.
Minneapolis has a game; Duluth wrapped up now (I believe). Looks like CollegeHockeyNews has something incorrect for their series continuing, if UMD did sweep... There are two series still going in the ECAC.Sunday hockey in Duluth and Minneapolis.
Oh, I see, thanks for the confirmation. The box score on USCHO had a UMD win in overtime, when it was really Mankato that won in OT.Duluth plays game 3 today
Not only were the 'game tracker' pages stuck at the beginning of overtime yesterday (while at the Wisconsin-Bemidji game, I learned who had won in Duluth from the two teams' twitter accounts), as of this morning, none of the game's stats are reflected in the stats page at the WCHA web site, or at the two teams' web pages. And no box score at the teams' pages. Weird ...Duluth stats people were so stunned that the game info was delayed for hours and still gotten wrong.
