Hobart’s SOS is 72 and Endicott’s SOS is 69. The argument against Salve is their SOS. Do we feel the same about Hobart and Endicott? What about Aurora? SOS is 61…

This field honestly isn’t that bad.
Salve is its own thing, but outside of that…this is a very competitive and “normal” looking field.
The big outliers this year is 3 autobids are being taken up by teams that are much further down in the NPI.
Generally there are 1-2 “weaker” teams that end up getting in, but with the MAC, Mascac and MIAC being way off the pace this year, this is what you get.
Salve is its own thing, but outside of that…this is a very competitive and “normal” looking field.

There's something funny about seeing Utica possibly having to travel to a high school rink to play Salve, then traveling to the Cooler... just for a chance to play at their own rink for the Frozen 4
If they don't win the UCHC they may not play in the NCAA at all !

I don't think that UU- or anyone else- is too concerned about playing Salve in the first round on any sheet, should that happen.
Hobart at The Cooler..? Nobody wants that, but I like the field vs. Hobart this year, albeit by a narrow margin.

Very true. Utica has a better-than-even chance of garnering a berth, but doesn't have the 'tending to go deep, IMO.

...And this is an annual problem. Has been for decades.
If D-3 is so sold on the NPI, select the field accordingly, especially when they allow programs to play conference hop-scotch on a whim.

May have to swap Stout and Aurora. St. Johns is many moons away from Adrian...
They are in trouble if they lose and 2 or more of the following happen.
1. Hobart losing
2. Someone other than UNE/Endicott winning the CNE
3. Someone other than Hamilton/Bowdoin winning the NESCAC
4. Someone other than Adrian/Aurora winning the NCHA
1 and 2 seem unlikely. Middlebury and Tufts can win the NESCAC. St Norbert can win the NCHA.

Teams from the same conference cannot play in the first round, so they'll have to pony up for one flight to make it work and be fair
Is this new? St. Norbert has hosted Adrian in a first round game. http://www.collegehockeystats.net/0910/boxes/madrsnb1.m10 Oh dang, just answered my own question - this was when Adrian was in the old MCHA!

Adrian played at SNC in the first round in 2014. That was the first season of the "new" NCHA, so they were conference opponents at the time.
