Colgate 2025-26

Anyone making the trip to Hamden Saturday? Shabby? IBT?

I don’t know my plans yet, but I am leaning towards ‘no.’ Last weekend, I decided to take a run up to RPI on Saturday for an easy victory and we all know how that went. he he he. Results like that take the wind out of my sails sometimes. But, we’ll see, a good showing on Friday at Princeton might change my mind…

Individual game statistics can (and often) are misleading, but over the course of (almost) a full season they do produce reasonable results...currently, we are 54th in the country in Shots on Goal/Game...our shooting from "Close" vis-a-vis our collective opponents is 52nd...we also are the 10th oldest team in the country...I hope the streak continues tonight but I'm not holding my breadth...

Common sense says a 19-0-4 regular season record is going to include a Loss sooner rather than later.
I expect Andrew Takacs will be in goal tonight. (NOTE: REID DYCK IS IN GOAL FOR 'GATE; ARTHUR SMITH IN GOAL FOR PRINCETON).
I hope we score first.
And we need to stay out of the penalty box.
Having said all that, I am getting ready to watch on ESPN and I have alcohol on standby.
Go ‘Gate!

Colgate penalty. Killed.

Princeton 11, Colgate 7, Faceoffs won after one.
Princeton 10, Colgate 5, SOG after one.
Colgate 0, Princeton 0, score after one.

Official gets tangled up with Princeton player, who goes down... and Colgate scored! Max Nagel from Michael Neumeier and Ryan Sullivan.

Getting very chippy.
Matching minor penalties (unsportsmanlike conduct). Killed.

Colgate 18, Princeton 14, faceoffs won after two.
Princeton 24, Colgate 17, SOG after two.
Colgate 1, Princeton 0, score after two.
A one-goal lead in the third period against Princeton isn't feeling overly comfortable.

Princeton challenging for possible head contact major penalty. Unsuccessful.

9:16 remaining.
Princeton goal. Colgate challenge for goaltender interference. Unsuccessful. Good goal. 1-1.
6:06 remaining.
5:14 remaining.
2:30 remaining.
1:48 remaining and Princeton takes the penalty (slashing).

1-1 after Regulation. Going to 3-on-3 OT.
45.4 remaining in OT.
1-1 Final Score after OT.
The streak continues... 19-0-5.

Reid Dyck is the reason we scored two points tonight in the ECAC Hockey standings. Wow!!

Reid Dyck in goal for Colgate tonight. Matej Marinov in goal for Quinnipiac.

It's still scoreless, but this isn't going to end well if we keep giving the puck away in our own end. 13-4 QU SOG with 8:11 remaining in the period.

Final post, since I have been using the standby alcohol tonight...

Historically, when Quinnipiac wins, the average score is 5-1 against Colgate.
Tonight's score was 5-2. I will give Quinnipiac the benefit of the doubt on that, as they, not surprisingly, suffered the sole five-minute major penalty.

Having said that, our average penalty minutes per game didn't decrease tonight either.

We didn't score first, so that stat wasn't in jeopardy.

Lastly, I went to Boston University when they skated circles around us.
I was at Michigan State when they skated circles around us.
I am sure that Reid Dyck would agree with me tonight... Quinnipiac skated circles around us.
As GreenCoat sez, at this point in the season, we know what we have (and, conversely, what we don't have).

P.S. - Well, I think we clinched home-ice in the first-round. We have 27 points and Yale has 21 points. We each have two games to go, or six points. But we beat them in both regular season meetings this year.

I was at the game tonight. So disappointing to see us totally uncompetitive. Our first line is decent, but as Coat is apt to point out, most of that is Nagel who is definitely a player. I didn’t really see anything out of our other three lines.

Recruiting needs a substantial step up.

Okay, here we are tonight, after all the games have gone 'final'...

ECAC Hockey...

Quinnipiac 47, Dartmouth 43, Cornell 41, Princeton 35 points,
Harvard 32, Union 31, Colgate 27, Clarkson 26 points,
Yale 21, Saint Lawrence 20, RPI 20, Brown 17 points.

Six points are the max any team can score next weekend. You do the math.

As for the bigger picture, here are the NCAA Percentage Index (NPI) rankings...

1 - Michigan State, 2 - Michigan, 3 - North Dakota, 4 - Western Michigan,
5 - Penn State, 6- Providence, 7 - Quinnipiac, 8 - Minnesota Duluth,
9 - Denver, 10 - Cornell, 11 - Dartmouth, 12 - Boston College,
13 - Wisconsin, 14 - Connecticut, 15 - Saint Thomas, 16 - Minnesota State (Mankato).

There are six conference tournaments with automatic bids to their champions. You do the math.
