2026 Winter Olympics: Thread Title Under Construction

Did anyone catch the Ski Mountaineering races? Those are pretty fun. Ski uphill- that Norwegian would do well at this, take skis off- climb a little, put back on- go up more- take friction material off skis, and ski a moderate slalom back down.

Pretty cool race- that downhill is tough, as your legs have to be rubber by the time you reach the top, AND the skis lean more toward XC skis than downhill- so they are flexy. The sprint race is pretty short- done in a few min. Wonder what the non sprint will be.

Holy cow. These are superhumans.

So with the US winning we added a few names to the Women's Triple Gold Club (though unofficial since the criteria hasn't been fully established). My count Heise, Curl (boo), and Zumwinkle all joined with the Gold Medal win.

On the Men's there really aren't very many candidates, Reinhart, MacKinnon, Stone, and Marchand for Canada (which is a surprisingly low number of candidates for Canada), Luostarinen is the only one for Finland (shockingly low too) and the US and Slovakia have zero though Thompson, Keller, Werenski, and Swayman could get 2/3rds of the way there.

Apparently, Alysa Liu was heavily recruited to skate for China in 2022 ala Eileen Giu but her father, who was exiled from China after being a protester in Tiananmen Square, shut that down. They were subsequently harassed pretty heavily the Chinese Government to the point that Liu almost didn't go to the Olympics in 2022.

at risk of completely doxxing myself, let's just say there are women on that team currently, and in past, and all over PWHL, who are not straight and still back donnie.

This shouldn't shock anyone, and there's no way it should dox you. I worked in college athletics to various degrees from 2004-2009, including with a number of women's sports. Unless you were specifically talking about Title IX's requirements for athletics which they personally benefited from, most people involved in sports leaned right regardless of any other socioeconomic factors.

Her story is quite amazing. I was sad to see Glenn not do well, but Liu's story made up for it a little.

IMHO, Glenn really redeemed herself last night. She was easily 2nd best last night- climbing up to 5th overall. Even with the small mistakes last night, she probably would have silvered just by attempting the jumps in the short program. Heartbreaking, but still pretty amazing. I really admire how she came back from that mental collapse.

But I hope other athletes in the future really control how they are available- seems that letting someone in and making a big story puts more pressure than it's warranted.

That makes me incredibly sad, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I will never understand why anyone likes anything about that man. He is the most evil, vile, human being.

Like Stalinism, Naziism, and Maoism, Dumpism is a study in the ability of us to shut out reality when it conflicts with the worms in our brains. Dump and his cult of personality are another experiment in social psychology. Shame at the human cost, but we needed the reminder that The Common Man is not connected to truth any more than the rest of the murder monkeys. He is clay shaped by memes, same as all of us.

I'm sure the constant acid of memes glorifying the immediate violent solution instead of boring, time-consuming Rawlsian process had a lot to do with the rise of Tangerine Turd. We need to be more careful of the messaging we send out into the ape universe. Maybe let's throw some gentleness and perspective out there instead of MCU durr punch durr.

It's such a massive massive cost. I would venture it might be the largest human cost in human history.

Dump's 14 million murders by killing USAID on a racist whim get him close to the podium, but he has a way to go to catch Mao.

A whole other chart could be made from the leaders of lethal capitalism, but it's harder to quantify how many have been killed by knowingly marketing death products, particularly as they tend to intertwine in a group effort. Smoking has killed 7M every year since the tobacco industry recognized they were murdering people in about 1956 and lied about it and bribed governments to stay out. That is 490M. The greatest killer in history is capitalism.

Which now controls the Olympics, which makes this a thread-relevant post.

These numbers need to be adjusted for inflation. MAGA is going to try taking credit for numbers when the population simply weren’t there when Mao and Hitler were in their grooves.
