Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

The opponent's first period yesterday was a thing of beauty. Feet moving constantly, winning loose puck races and allowing no time and space. Hard passes tape to tape seemingly every time. It looked like 7 on 5. It's like they were jacked up on a stimulant or something LOL. I don't know if UW as constructed has that in them.
Was there a Sierra sighting yesterday? 🥸

(I don't think I'd recognize him, and I wasn't looking, but ...)

It's interesting that he was checking in to read the forum quite regularly during the first half of the season, and now has not checked in since Dec 12th. He managed to break a bad habit? LOL

Maybe he finally figured out you don't need to be logged in to read the forum. Or he assumed a new identity to post snarky comments and predictions that don't materialize.

I was disappointed in the defense yesterday.

Sure, we're missing the best D maybe in the world right now but the rest of our core was there and looked pressured and flustered and were turning the puck over left and right. Jungles and Murphy were noticeably bad.

Overall team defense wasn't good either and some of the goals were a result of poor coverage.

Hope they get that cleaned up for today.

It is amazing how many penalties slOwSU has committed that have not been called. I guess one has been called with a little under 8 minutes remaining in the 3rd...

wait you can challenge a penalty called?

Eden was just outstanding today. Never mind the goal and the assists (the perfect stretch pass to Hall!), it was shift after long shift of absolute hustle: backchecking, forechecking on the PK to eat up time, chasing the puck up and down the ice. I'd be thinking "she's gotta get off", and she'd go another half-minute racing up the ice full blast. Player of the game.

(BTW: between the first and second periods, Muzzeral ditched the ridiculous high heels for some moccasins (maybe?). Good decision by her (for once, LOL).

She reminded me of Pankowski - willing the team to win. Too bad she can't win a PK faceoff! At some point the coaches have to be smart enough to have someone else try, they can't do any worse.

I wish I could put my finger on the differences between game 1 and 2, not that it matters since these versions of the team will never meet again, but how did UW go from getting totally dominated probably the worse game I have ever seen, to flipping the scrip like they did. They took better care of the puck, but why did the opponent not disrupt like they did the game before? It was like they knew where every pass was going before it was sent.

Sat on the glass just down from the Badger bench, that is where Maddy wanted to sit. It was really cool to be at ice level. I do miss the view from up high, you see the flow so much better, but it's a thrill to be so close and I did miss not pounding on the glass. Most importantly, Maddy had a blast! I'm so torn.

Anybody know what Ohio State challenged for a major at 7:50 of the third period yesterday? I couldn't find anything between the offsides proir and the penalty to Wicks?

It was a complete ruse to get more rest… call timeout and you get a minute…. Challenge a phantom situation and with the incompetent officials you get at least 3 minutes if not more… you lose your timeout that you were going to use anyway and gain the additional rest

There must have been a lot of coaches whining about shifty line changes to have 3 too many players called in 1 weekend.
I spent some (small amount of) time after Ohio State played Duluth with only 8 forwards and 5 defense trying to figure out how they were managing to rotate players onto the ice. I think what they were doing (vs Duluth, before Swiderski returned) was pretty much just playing the three forwards on the left who were listed on the line chart as being lefts, and then some version of "rolling" the other five centers and rights through the other two positions, irrespective of rights being in the middle or middles being on the right. That would minimize 'confusion' on the bench in trying to avoid 'too many players' penalties. With Swiderski back vs UW, they bumped defender Grace McCoshen up to play forward.

But it still had to be difficult to manage rolling rights and centers. Maybe they got away with 'too many' vs Duluth, or maybe moving McCoshen into the mix added that much more confusion. Hard to see on the video from LaBahn. I do know that McCoshen took a handful of faceoffs on Saturday, and none on Sunday, and Baxter took a bunch more on Saturday than she did Sunday. IIRC, Jordyn Petrie took some vs Duluth, and none either day vs UW. (Interesting that Wisconsin did better - less poorly - on faceoffs Saturday than they did Sunday.)
