BU Hockey '25-'26: Can we keep up the run to Vegas?

As soon as I saw it I thought it was a penalty on us…I would have wanted that call had the situation been reversed. It should be noted that our captain committed a huge penalty at the most inopportune time. Again.

Yet, when the hockey gods remove their hex and the puck starts going in, BU might go on a tear. It was exactly this time last year that the switch got flipped…last year the key was stopping it from going in our net, perhaps this year it will be that the puck starts bouncing our way.

Eiserman may need to do some ritual or such to shake the bad voodoo that denies him goals. He has had 3 tonight that go in unless you are on a bad streak.
That one save by Zacher when I saw it on replay at home was incredible. It looked like a sure goal and would have avoided the OT / Shootout

BU again dictated the play again, but we were snakebitten again on some surely labeled goals. l liked the energy and thought we deserved to win that game (haven't said that in a while!) and advance. I guess it wasn't really a win, but a good tie! NU goalie kept them in it (As well as Big Mike on several occasions). There is certainly potential there, but again way too many turnovers - that's really the only way NU put pressure on - when we gave it to them in our zone or at the blue lines. Liked the improved cycling of the puck in the O zone.

On to BC in the final which, if they win, could be the signature game of this rather disappointing year.
Agree on the cycling. It looked like they were working more consistently to get it deep and then fight behind the cage. It worked. I also thought puck management was much improved. Yes, there were turnovers, but usually in the neutral zone, not the slot in front of Big Mike! (That terrible situation where Hutson lost his edge behind own goal and the puck trickled in front of the goalmouth was an exception, but sort of excusable and at least not on an ill advised drop pass to no one.)

Random thought on shooting…the players have all either played with or seen a ton of Macklin and Lane highlights. I don’t think I appreciated how accurate Macklin was nor how much of a sniper Lane was…it seems to me many are trying emulate them with the one-timers, short side/bad angles and top corner shots from the outside. I suspect many coaches have had to tell players “you aren’t Steph/Larry/Caitlin/Brady …play your game and don’t try to be like them when they are in their zone, that can’t be replicated.” Both Coles and maybe Boisvert seem to be channeling old terriers and trying too hard to score that highlight reel goal..Rouk, Svoboda, Bednarik just go at the net and shoot. Like a pitcher aiming vs throwing, the harder you try to be perfect the worse you get.

Does anyone have a link to Cole Eiserman's goalie crash? I was in the building so never saw a replay. In real time it looked reckless and I thought it could have been a penalty. The highlight packages conveniently left it out.

I don't have a link, but Cole lost an edge. He was trying to cross in front and ended up barreling in. The absence of a call reflected that the collision was clearly not based on his intended trajectory.

serious question…
If Monday goes to OT, Why not have Hutson stand behind his own net and kill the 5 minutes and get to a shootout?

Yegorov is a huge advantage in shootouts. I would think Pando would understand that with how much teams use analytics these days.

He is so big and gives the shooter nothing (I was shocked even one of the NU players scored on Monday). I believe he’s also 3 for 3 in penalty shots this season.

Speaking of losing an edge, it seemed like there were more than an average number of players losing an edge and blowing out throughout the game. Ice issues? I know it was the late game, but in an NHL rink that should not be a problem.

True, and if I remember correctly, Northeastern's goalie literally lost the edge off his skate on the same play.

I kinda hate that the300th game between BU and BC is happening on the Beanpot final. I am OK in making it a thing if it was just a regular game but the Beanpot final should be its own thing. Just another added layer of pressure.

Nah. It's great. And the patch is cool. Jack and Jerry dropping the puck... All good and will increase interest.

Did you see that Denver is coming next season. During Thanksgiving weekend! :( - Not ideal. Blue blood program coming to Agganis when the student's aren't there.

Per the conversation a while back…McKenna didn’t help his draft status by getting arrested. Lawrence may not be #1 but he has looked like he belongs in first 10 games.

Many topics:
- McKenna's stock will not drop at all if the story about the other guy calling his mom a who*e are true. He has been watched so closely for the past 4 years that nobody is going to think that all of a sudden he has issues because he punched a guy who deserved it. And breaking a guys jaw will give him some street cred :-)
- I was so sure NU was going to score in OT in those last 38 seconds. I agree the refs had to call it, but it certainly wasn't intentional by Gavin. And the guy that fell wasn't as close to Ritchie as the other defender, so I feel like he still would have scored.
- Don't forget that two years ago, we got completely hosed by the refs who had not called a penalty against BU the whole game (they generally weren't calling much) but then made what I thought was a very bad call against Gavin with a few minutes left in the game and BU up by a goal. NU scored on the PP and the won in OT. I felt really bad for Gavin. Glad for him that this time the penalty didn't stop us from advancing.
- 91 had his best game of the season. His flubbed pass to 34 hurt us, but after that he skated like a kid with confidence.
- Hutson also was skating better than he has in a while. Maybe he is more healed up??
- If we manage to beat BC then this season will be like 86-87. Preseason #1 in the country, barely finished over .500, but won the Beanpot.
