Hey I know ur being sarcastic but c'mon you could've at least given ken dryden the "decent" label. Half decent is just bonkers.
Tony/troy, thanks for pointing this out as the Hobart Hockey team does , indeed, have an opportunity to tie Cornell University's NCAA record home win streak(63) with a win this weekend. I also remember that win streak as it started in 1967 with Ken Dryden in goal. While the D1 streak by Cornell was incredible, I think it would be super cool for Hobart to tie the record against another great D3 team/program in Oswego.....if the Statesmen fall short, I will certainly blame you for the jinxHope this does not turn in to some kind of ginks, but, Hobart's current run reminded me of a very long college hockey home winning streak from a long, long time ago. Took a while to find it and verify that my memory was not shot. It turned out that it wasn't. That home winning streak, which started when I was in 8th grade and ended when I was a freshman in college, turned out to be Cornell at 63 games. For the first half of that streak Cornell did have a halfway decent goalie and a pretty fair coach who are now both in various Halls of Fame.
In case it's not being made a big deal of out west, Hobart's current home winning streak is 62. Don't know if Friday night decides if any goalies or coaches do or do not not make any Halls of Fame but it will be fun to tune in and watch. If they do get #63 on Friday, #,s 64 & 65 are probably givens at later dates.
At this point Hobart is down the list of Championship teams with only three as Middlebury has 8 with 5 consecutive. I think if Hobart matches the five consecutive Championships, the comparison is on, but not yet. I know Coach Taylor is very proud of each of his teams, but program wise, you gotta give Middlebury the nod.The streak is really special , but Championships are what matter. I never saw those old Middlebury teams play, but I know this year's Hobart team is really fast , tough and our main goal tender is awesome and it might be Hobart's best ,but the tournament is the real test.so an any old-timers compare Hobart to the way back dominant Middlebury teams???? I would imagine at this point it would be a good comparison???
Some really "Smokey" selections back then !It's impossible to compare Hobart's 3-peat to Middlebury's 5-peat. The tournament field only had 8 teams back then, and the quarterfinal round was 2+mini (although Middlebury only needed one mini game victory). Looking at some of the at-large bids from the Middlebury run, the field seemed to be weaker back then. For example, Oswego St got an at-large bid with a record of 16-11-2 in 1998. Elmira was 15-8-4 in 1997. etc.
