Wisconsin Hockey 25-26 Hastings Year 3 - Turning the Corner?

Looking like a complete collapse. They very seriously miss Zelenov as a playmaker and Schulz as a defensive dman, but jesus the goalies are horrific.
How many times do unexpected shots go in? Far too many times to compete for first or second place.

This may be the point where rodentsota turns their season around. I have no idea which Wisconsin team is real. The 15-3-2 version or the soon to be 0-5 in the last 5 version.

Outside if Horbach and Dexhiemer everyone is puck watching and waiting for the puck to come to them. Fitzgerald and Finley are two of the worst offenders of standing around. I dont even want to bring up the D. They are just flat out terrible. They all look scared and panic whenever the puck comes to them. Lastly, shoot the damn puck when your in a prime area. To many cute passes trying for the highlight goal.

This team plays 90% of the offensive possession time on or near the wall. They have no center ice game. They will not be scoring a lot goals until they can possess and get shots in better scoring areas. The one they got tonight was essentially luck.

Wisconsin hockey: we're good for what ails ya!

It’s over. Hastings might be fools gold. I thought he’d turn it around but as the years go by they just are not getting better. I was his biggest proponent but I am beginning to wonder if this league isn’t going to work for his system.

It’s odd. First year was good until the upper classmen decided to stop buying in.

you’d like to see a trajectory but I’m not sure I see one with this team. In year 3 with Eaves you saw the team was well on its way towards prominence. Now? I have no idea where this team is headed.

I don't know the character of the leadership of the current team, so I'm not knocking any of them. The character demonstrated by the leaders of the team leading up to the '06 championship was there for all to see, and I agree you could see that team being led to success by those players. I'm not sure we have that right now.

Agree 100%!

Milewski was asked if Hastings has lost the room

“I don't know if that's it. But the buttons he's pushing don't seem to be changing things.”

I think it’s fair right now to question Hastings. People jumped on me for it last season but c’mon. Is he in over his head? When do we get to question the coaching staff’s abilities/effectiveness without derision?

They regressed terribly last season and. Now we’re in the second consecutive Hastings second half swoon and this team is almost entirely his guys.

Why is Ped State in a better position?. Or Michigan and MSU?

at Some point there needs to be scrutiny of the results and accountability from players AND coaches. The Press conference this week was great. But the results so far? Terrible.

Like mentioned earlier, several times tonight I saw kids give less than full effort where one or two more strides could have kept a puck in the O zone or resulted in a turnover.

At the end of the day this ends up falling on the players. The only thing a coach can really do is bench someone. The guys wearing letters need to do their job and call teammates out. If they wont then perhaps Hastings needs to strip those letters. There are a few reasons for this slide, playing good team/better players, injuries and effort. The fellas can only control one of those and if guys like Finley and Fitzgerald dont want to put in the effort get them out of the lineup. Its like Pavelski says in this video!!!! Caution for some language

I just don't want to hear Hastings tell me how good the team's dailies were this week again and again only to have them go out and get taken to the woodshed. Posick never fails to say how good they looked in practice, he said it again last night.

Possibilities:
1. They don't translate all that daily practice effort into game situations.
2. They practice against themselves and look good, but that competition doesn't represent the skill and drive found in an actual game against Big 10 opponents.
3. He doesn't understand the effort seen in practice during the week doesn't rise to the level of Big 10 competition.

The effort and desire demonstrated by their opponents since break far exceeds what we've seen from the Badgers. Hell, even Alaska gave more effort even though we eked those games out. There's been too many 'leaders' on this team drifting around waiting for something to happen instead of making something happen. If they have aspirations of playing at the next level they better find the next gear; they're not fooling us nor scouts evaluating their current game.

I'm not expecting much tonight, but maybe they'll surprise me. I've been waiting for that surprise for several weeks now. The final test will be next week at home against Notre Dame. If they can't at least take a majority of those points then they've truly given up.
