UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

It's a colloquialism but you know that. It's it bit much for the Bufords of the world but not you, Ref.
Yeah well I get that..but thinking how I know who Emily is, or any other woman on this board or anywhere else in the planet, prob aren't into having those kinds of colloquialisms 'now that you are getting slapped around' applied to them. But hey! Free country...for now anyway....Done engaging and almost sorry I brought it up, given the nature of public message boards.

Can we just get back to some decent commentary about UNH hockey? Sigh.

From day 1 of my posting I have tried to discuss the state of the program intelligently by referencing the problems with funding at UNH, recruiting, poor management by UNH, facility issues, support problems and yes coaching. New conversation isn't welcome.

The rinse and repeat crowd (Buford, Meathead, Elwood and now Emily The Flunky) just regurgitate the same bologna. Let's see. It's all Marty Scarano's fault - after all the Friend of UNH Hockey was the secret sauce for UNH's past successes. Well, now the Marty is gone Rich is the problem. And Souza is the problem. And prima donna goal scorers like Conmy are the problem, after all goal scorers never play defense or are good along the boards.

The larger conversation never occurs. While Buford, Meathead, Elwood and Emily The Flunky lack the necessities to discuss it, no effort is made at all. UNH has an 88% admissions rate, a brutally underfunded university due to deadbeat tax payer non-support, and athletic programs that pretty much across the board are failing. Dim witted posters like Buford, Meathead, Elwood and Emily The Flunky say it's all Mike Souza's fault, which is drivel. Souza is clealry not the solution but he is in no way THE PROBLEM.

What are your predictions for this weekend? We can never seem to win at MC and unfortunately don’t think tomorrow we will break that streak. I hope I am pleasantly surprised…

Friday: 4-1 MC
Saturday: 3-2 UNH

FWIW, i am eager for "decent" commentary. But are talking about Rod Langway, the 1979 ECAC tourney, the 1999 NCAA final, Rube Bjorkman (hey everyone, he's still alive!!!!!!!), Dick Umile, the Fish, or "VIP" seating at Lawlor, which is about as exciting as preferred parking in Lawrence? Is that decent? Go back and read the posts and give me an example of decent commentary, please?

Oh yeah, I bet you’re super eager considering you have never offered up any commentary on the team

Friday: 4-1 MC
Saturday: 3-2 UNH
Winning at MC starts with the team getting the message that they CAN win there rather than how 'tough it is to play there..I mean if they can sweep Maine at the Alfond (now that is a tough place to get a W period let alone a sweep). All that said...

Friday. MC 3 UNH 2
Sat. UNH 4 MC 2

BTW so glad to see the new people who have been posting here lately! It's nice to mix the glory of the past with what's happening now. Please keep coming back...

I miss 'Watcher...

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Porta I would say that the intelligent aspect was missed but we can try and carry on anyway.

It would be great if there was a pot of gold to fund the program with limitless spending, but this is not a new reality in NH. The U has always been one of the more expensive state schools. The budget gap this year could have been solved easily by the Governor if she had restored the Rooms and Meals tax to 9%, but she refused to.

The Friends was significant part of success for the team, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars. You don't think that would be nice to have now for NIL options or renovations? Could have offered your love child Conmy $50K to stay. How about STH engagement that was facilitated by the friends? No we get a discount on a soda and the special row in A-Lot. How exciting.

Does AD Rich have no blame for extending a coach after 1 season of success?

And yes, Souza the biggest part of the problem. The team and its functions are on him. If recruiting is a problem, he needs to find a new way or new people to recruit. The on-ice performance is 100% a function of his coaching.

If Souza is not the solution, why do you get so apoplectic when people mention it is time to go? Maybe try and have an adult conversation with others here and you might get somewhere. Have you noticed the rest of us converse, that is because we know who each other is and don't throw a tantrum like a 3 year old.

Totally forgot we played them at the beginning of the season. Won’t talk about the outcome lol. But I believe that was one of the games Marty missed with his injury. Not that he will necessarily make or break us but his presence was definitely missed during that stretch. Love the way he plays. And glad to see Cy is back on the score sheet. Too bad that goal on Saturday was called back for a missed offside

What happened to the Friends of UNH Hockey thing? Did the University axe it or just get their midas touch hands on it and ruin it? I kind of remember reading a bit about it but can't remember the general idea of what happened.

JB would have more finite details, but from what I remember the Friends of UNH Men's Hockey money was allocated strictly to the men's team. They used to make a killing on merch sales and the 50/50 when the place was packed. Marty and his infinite wisdom thought they could mimic this success and then the money would be spread across the athletic department. The slowly pushed the friends out by various means, and here we are today.

I am hopeful that with getting back to team identity the boys can right the ship this weekend. Win on Friday and then push for a sweep. I was at the Merrimack game earlier in the year and the defense looked, well what it is, very young. Though the margin of error is very slim, they still need to get back to team defense while maximizing zone entry of the weakside defenseman when we gain control (I understand the current conservative structure, but we need to generate more high leverage opportunities). The goaltender(s) need to help the defense by getting behind the net more (this has been a pet peeve of mine all year and last). They need to become the 3rd defenseman on the dump and forecheck which all teams are doing to us right now because our goalies stay put, almost nervous to leave the net. When UNH has control in the offensive zone they need to start shooting from the slot vs the point. We are making it easy on the opposing goaltenders not moving them side to side particularly on the PP. Finally, the boys need to get a fricken lead!!!!! I am not going to predict a sweep because predictions with this team haven't seemed to age well lately. I am very optimistic, however, that we have enough talent to get on another streak and make a run at TD Garden. Go Blue!!

Yup Marty is a difference maker no doubt and am happy to see Cy potting some goals. I think they are gonna be up for it. Its always a fast paced 'send it to the net' pace at Lawlor!

I got last min tix so am somewhere in section 7 (newr the entrance) . I partied up where you guys are once think it was the BC v MC qtr where MC bested the Beagles to go to the coveted TD Garden.

So hope to see you there along with your tribe..

Could I ask a small favor of the august UNH posters (at least those who actually post about hockey games)? The name of the rink at Merrimack is "Lawler", not "Lawlor". It is named for the late Merrimack Coach J. Thom Lawler who was there during the Warriors DII heyday (my years on campus). He was a wonderful guy, and shouldn't be confused with Tom Lawlor, the American wrestler and retired MMA artist, nicknamed "Filthy"
If it ever comes to pass that they rename the Whitt after the current coach, I promise never to refer to it as "Souzer Arena".

As a certain someone says, Thank you for your attention to this matter.;)

Oh, and as regards this weekend, I see a split. Merrimack is still shaky on the road.
