Providence College 2025-26 Official Season-Long Thread

Speaking on the subject of in-game commentary, somebody get Colby Cohen some better glasses so he can stop calling him "Kiv-e-ola". There's always one guy. Last year during a broadcast one guy kept calling him Svedberg. At least Buccigross got all the names right from what I could tell.

A credit to Parsons and his performance thus far - He looks like a guy who should be the #1. Love Svedeback and don't know if in past years we could've had a better goaltender, but was seeing this as being his best year performance-wise. Nearly identical numbers to Parsons with significantly greater playing time. I do think one difference in his game and Parsons is the latter seems more poised after giving up a goal. Seems like those rattle Svedeback's confidence at times. And how about the team seemingly fixing that mess that was the never-ending streak of SHG surrendered? Big credit to the coaching staff for making adjustments and cleaning up that mess.

Figured it was a matter of time he would get injured with how often opposing players run him down. I've never seen a goalie get flattened like that so often where it seemed like every time it happens it would be the one that puts him on the shelf.

Agreed on Parsons seeming more poised, though am curious about how he'd fare in a shootout (last season I think Friars lost 4 out of 6 shootouts)

In other news, Sawyer is named HE player of the week, and Friars are CHN's team of the week. And BU loses their 1C for the upcoming weekend series against PC. Hope Friars can carry on the way they played on Saturday.
 
BU is such a strange team this year. Overhyped from the start? Without Boisvert I like our chances a bit better - PC has all the momentum right now and just need to keep it simple. Shut down the Cole's seems like a successful gameplan.
 
on College Hockey Today Schlossman was talking about Providence having surprised him. His main reason for underestimating the team to start the year was he looked at the roster, especially the defense, and they’re all so young. Most of their best forwards are also young too. He pointed to two particular surprise standouts in Fauchon (didn’t think the production would translate so quick) and Mantei, who isn’t putting up a ton of points but has +12 while logging 2nd most TOI, double the next closest defenseman. Of course, the McQueen connection helps boost his importance too

Credit to the staff for two straight banger recruiting classes. Schloss doesn’t think many of them are in danger of leaving for pro immediately- any potential flight risks?

McQueen, similar to Trevor, will have to do what Anaheim says IMO. I think he should stay and get stronger but I think it is out of Nate's hands
 
I might be wrong but wouldn't McQueen still not be eligible to play AHL next year if he doesn't make the Ducks roster? I always assumed Roger would be a two year guy because of his age but like you said, it's up to Anaheim.

McQueen turned 19 in September or October I believe. Not sure what the age requirements are for being able to play in the AHL.

Hope the students show up for tonight. They did a pretty good job of sticking around last Saturday for 3rd period.

Friars absolutely have to stop the penalties tonight or it could be a long night.

Do we see Simpson this weekend?

early birthday. he would be fine to play in the AHL even if he was still coming from the WHL, next season 06 born players are considered overage players. i think you can just go to the AHL if you come from college though, might be wrong on that. there’s also meant to be a new rule where nhl teams can have 1 19 year old CHL kid play in the AHL in the new CBA

imo the more significant thing than just age is the injury history. he missed nearly his entire 18 year old season, so another year of college could benefit him. it’s mostly up to him and the ducks though.
 
C-roll, thanks for the post. I think only last season had I heard about an age minimum for CHL players with the AHL, makes sense when they would just get sent back to juniors so it's something I'll be following if I can learn something from it.
 
What a win tonight. Outplayed the "pro" team most of the game. Shots on goal were significantly in Friars favor. The Kivioa line continues to impress.

Big 3 points on the line tomorrow at Agganis.
 
Another excellent weekend of PC hockey. They survived January without going on their usual lengthy losing streak. Up to 7 in the NPI after tonight (With Q-piac losing to UConn). Sitting alone in first place in HE.

A fairly favorable schedule for PC the rest of the way - 1 w/Maine, 3 w/UNH, 3 w/VT, 2 with NU and 1 with UConn.
 
Just an amazing run. Probably the best January performance ever given the strong competition, setting one PC record after another. After losing Svedeback there was a chance this was a lost season. Instead an amazing confluence of many players stepping up with peak performances giving their full focus, skill and energy. Then Parsons inspires with sharp attention to detail spurred by the efforts of his teammates and coaching staff, particularly Joe Palmer. Finally a superb coaching job by Nate Leaman who turned the demoralizing defeat by Alaska Fairbanks into a string of W’s. Similar to his Gold winning coaching performance at the 2021 World Juniors when his US team lost their first game to Russia in the preliminary round, then won every game after that for the Gold.

They are a really good team with a high level of determination and might be a very tough team to beat for the rest of the season. Hope they can keep it up!

I wonder if PC played Michigan later in the year how they would fare against them. It was a good test for them up front to see how the new players fit in, finding out which players click with which linemates. Some ugly losses along the way - if you wipe out the St Thomas tie, Alaska blowout, CC loss, you have losses against Lowell, UMass, and the two with Michigan.

There's significant progress on-ice with the team over the course of the season. Limiting sloppy play and SHG opportunities has been a huge plus. I'm not saying they're gonna sweep the rest of the way through the regular season, but that would be a nice boost for the program. I do wonder what a Svedeback return does, if Leaman only plays him, or they split starts the rest of the way upon his return, or even what kind of condition Phil is in when he returns. Gonna need some time to knock the rust off.

Everybody in the lineup is contributing in positive ways and showing they deserve to be getting ice time. Much more stable than past years where there was a huge decline between your second and your third line players. Good gets out of the CHL and McCallum too. Blend in really well and each add leadership, skill and reliability to the defense.

If Parsons is still playing great and the team is winning, he has to stay in the net regardless of the status of Philip.
