We desperately need our forwards to start scoring and this weekend wouldn't be a bad place to start...our non-losing streak in the regular season against Princeton is in jeopardy as well...

HOLY COW, GreenCoat!! I just looked and I think that the last time we lost to Princeton in the regular season was pre-Covid, pre-Class of ‘65 Arena… we lost both regular season games to Princeton in 2012-13. That’s wild!! Thanks!

Shabby, we did lose a playoff series to Fogarty and Princeton in, I think, 2016-17...we won game #1 on Jake Kulevich's goals, then lead by a goal in the third period of game #2...Princeton scored with ONE SECOND to go, then won in ot...following night P'ton won by a goal to win series 2-1...but in the regular season Fogarty never beat DV (a tie or two occurred) and going forward the same has occurred through the 2024-25 season...

Reid Dyck led NPI#48 Colgate onto the ice tonight for the pre-game warmup. Dylan Silverstein did the same for NPI#10 Quinnipiac. Andrew Takacs and Jack Olson are also dressed for ‘Gate.
Colgate penalty in first minute of play. Killed.
Very intense play in first five minutes.

Quinnipiac goalie must have received a cut to forehead. Being looked at. Okay.

Well, since no one else wants to comment, post-game...
I honestly believe that if Rand Pecknold had given Colgate a two-man advantage the entire game, 'Gate would have won it.
If he had given 'Gate a one-man advantage for the full sixty minutes, I am not saying that Colgate would have necessarily won it, but the fans leaving the Class of 1965 Arena would have (at least) seen a competitive game.
As it was, at even strength for most of the game, it was no contest. It actually reminded me a lot of the first game at Boston University this season... our opponent just skated circles around us. On October 10, that result was 6-2 BU. Tonight, it was 5-1 QU.
If you remember, the next night on October 11, it was a 2-2 tie, which felt like a win for 'Gate. We were so outplayed tonight, that me thinks a tie tomorrow night against NPI#19 Princeton, even at home, would again feel like a win for NPI#50 Colgate.
Tonight, our defensemen did no favors for Reid Dyck in the first period. Of course, Reid did himself no favors either. 4-0. And, yes, Andrew Takacs only let it one goal in the final two periods, but Quinnipiac really backed off in the second half of the game. And our forwards tonight??

Welp that was my first live one of the year and Iowa that was as ugly as a first period as I remember at home. For me, the last time I saw that bad of a first period was St. Cloud State came into the old barn maybe back in like 2013 or so and did the same.
Iowa your analysis was spot on, everything Quinnipiac did with the puck had intention and a purpose. They passed so well and were always in position. We seemed like a deer in the headlights when we had the puck.
I was also surprised to see Harder on the big screen after the first, I figured it was a recorded message at first but then realized it was live, good for him. I think the week off hurt them ironically enough, seemed like a morning skate in that first period.
Let’s hope for a better showing tonight.

How is a player who played in the
AHL allowed to play for QU. I understand that the ncaa is allowing the major junior guys to play but the AHL is the pros kind of pathetic that it is allowed

Iowa...I try to be positive here, noone needs negativity but it keeps getting harder and harder especially after clusterxxxxx like last night. Maybe we can blame it on the schedule makers whoever that is. I don't think three games in about two months helped us very much, otherwise I'm at a loss for words !

Courtesy of SNY I was able to witness the game on TV. 'Gate looked meh throughout and seemed to be just muddling through. No real attacks toward the QU net. I guess this is why they are ranked #7 and we aren't. Princeton seems to be a killer team this season. Let's hope we can do better tonight and show up.

Several years ago I did mention that with Reid Cashman assuming the head coaching duties at Dartmouth expect tangible improvement in 2-3 years...as you know Cashman was probably Pecknold's first DI All-Star, later to become an assistant under Rand. IMO coaching matters a lot in college hockey, especially with the new (but perhaps not improved rules re: eligibility)...Coach Harder had success in his first two years, but remember he had the benefit of some quality D-men and forwards recruited by DV...we've picked up some quality over the past two years (Neumeier, Nagel, Norlin through the transfer pool, one or two others) but you simply can't play Harder's style of hockey if you're averaging 2.5 goals/game...as a group we need a real upgrade in both speed and skill at the forward position (I may be dead wrong but I don't see any real help coming next year)...having a little Pecknold DNA in your coaching staff is not a bad thing...he may be a d*** at times, but he takes every advantage the program and the university affords him...

GreenCoat, I totally agree with you (again). The entire 2022-23 season, I thought, 'this is Rand Pecknold's one-and-done season; with fifth-years and transfers, this is his only chance to shine in the NCAA Tournament.' He proved me right in Tampa, Fla., and then has proved me wrong ever since.

Well, I am a happy camper tonight...
First, I saw 12 deer cross in front of me on the way up to Hamilton today (east of Eaton) and I saw 9 more on the way home in five different sightings, and I didn't hit a one!
Second, Colgate continued its regular season non-losing streak against Princeton tonight, complete with a shutout for Andrew Takacs!
It really was a very good college hockey game; two very evenly matched teams, despite the disparity in their national rankings. We played 'up' to their level.
And, thinking more about it, we really didn't take our foot off the gas pedal in the third period. We kept the pressure on them, and we even wound up taking the lead in SOG late in the game.
Kudos to Mike Harder and his staff, and the entire team, for rebounding after last night's pathetic performance against Quinnipiac. The only saving grace was that apparently Cornell looked equally pathetic against Rand Pecknold's boys tonight in Ithaca.
Finally, the ECAC Hockey standings truly are a dog-fight...
Quinnipiac and Dartmouth with 28 and 26 points, respectively.
Then Princeton, Cornell and Harvard, with 22, 21 and 21 points, respectively.
Then Yale, Union, Clarkson and Colgate with 18, 17, 16 and 15 points, respectively.
And, finally, Brown, RPI and Saint Lawrence with 10, 10 and 3 points, respectively.
But Cornell and Colgate two games-in-hand over most everyone.
We really need to convert those two games into 6 points to move up into the next tier.
Needless to say, Harvard and Dartmouth next weekend are two more uber-critical games for us... at home.

P.S. - Even though for Colgate, it is all about positioning ourselves for the ECAC Hockey Tournament, there is still a battle to position ECAC teams for at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament. In that regard, this weekend, ECAC Hockey went from four teams in the 'top 16' to three: NPI#8 Dartmouth, NPI#9 Quinnipiac, and NPI#11 Cornell. Next closest are Harvard at NPI#21, Princeton at NPI#25, Union at NPI#28, and Clarkson at NPI#31. But it will take a massive effort by each of those four to move up significantly now that it is all conference play from here on out.
