Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

I think any player would be content in street clothes versus playing back in college because you're going to get a Golden Nugget hopefully.

Game 1: Wisconsin 5, Canada 4.
Game 2: Wisconsin 4, Canada 1.
My excitement is really toned down when ARD is in net.
It will come down to Eden vs Zumwinkle…. And unfortunately I don’t think Eden gets in.
Funny that the talking head geniuses during their intermission segment picking the teams didn’t have Joy Dunne making it.
That’s the most ridiculous exclusion ever. Even though she is slow as molasses she gives that immovable object and net front presence they seem to like.

VB.....I'm not gonna lie, I didn't lose any sleep over Nebraska taking a digger the other day. I put them in the same pot as THSNBN. Something about them rubs me the wrong way. I saw something on Twitter about their revenge tour next season. So far, revenge is 0-2 in women's college hockey.

Like Ohio, it's more their fans than anything else. Before their match yesterday, there were posts on the VB equivalent of this web site where there were Nebraska fans saying - only a little bit joking - if Texas A&M get to 20 points in a set, that would be a successful day for them.

Big time Nebraska volleyball hater here.

Yesterday was a fantastic volleyball day.

Loved seeing UW beat Texas on their court too as they swept us earlier this year and have eliminated us at least once in the recent past.

If we can get by Kentucky and draw Pitt, it would be fantastic to beat them for a championship. I was at the Field House when Pitt eliminated us in the Regional Final a couple years ago. Was not fun...

Not a pleasant ending to wake up to. They were up 2 1 playing in the 4th set when I hit the silk. My brain was pretty locked into the match. I even dreamed about it. I woke up at 3:00, had to pee and I considered checking out the results on Twitter but I didn't. Glad I didn't. From reading on Twitter, fans were lamenting to many service errors in the second and fourth sets. Is Charlie essentially the KK of the team in terms of player who is always stirring the pot?

Too many service errors in second set and a 6-0 KY run early in the 5th.

It was there to win but I wouldn't say they blew it. Kentucky is a good team too and had just enough to get past us.

Disappointing to lose but a great season and a Final Four for this team was a great achievement.

I'd agree when you lose in the 5th set down to the wire, you can't say you blew it, it's the final 4 for heaven's sake. Losing in straight sets I'd call blowing it.

While she still served well, and passed well when Kentucky served right at her, Kristen Simon was clearly not moving well after hitting the court hard and bruising her hip. Not getting digs she would normally have gotten to. Was that enough to make the difference? When the match is as close as this one was, lots of things can be "the difference". Shit happens. It was right there for the taking, and slipped through their hands. As I've heard MJ say, winning championships is hard.

I was thinking similar. Not that it was a sharp turning point - where after she went down the Ladies in Red dramtically reduced quality of play. But there were a couple instances - one where Simon seems to have tipped/stumbled on here way to the dig that one needs to wonder. Not the only factor, but probably some unmeasurable factor.

Easy to say in retrospect, but there was a rule change two years ago (this is the end of the second year under the new rule?) that you can have two players designated as libero, and swap them in and out for one another 'freely'. What they could have done is starting with the next set after the injury, have Anaya Warren also suited up as a libero, then let Simon serve when that turn in the rotation came up, and otherwise have Warren play the floor the rest of the time. Over that last 6-or-8 matches, Simon was UW's most effective server - was again last night, even after the injury - so you still get her serve, but maybe marginally better floor defense with Warren.

Or not. Kelly Sheffield's a pretty good coach - twenty years in a row getting teams from three different schools into the tournament - so they may be good reasons to have stuck with Simon throughout.

When I saw all that we lost last year and what we were bringing into this season, I would have thought that hosting the first weekend and getting to the sweet 16 or elite 8 would have been successful.

They cleared that and then some.

Lots to nitpick in last night's match but I don't leave this season disappointed like I have when our more heralded teams have stumbled.

Very young team so will be exciting to see where they go from here. Will need some to step in and step up on the pins and in the middle. I'm sure Kelly will bring in some help too.

Four freshmen coming for the 2026 season, all front row players (two lefts, one middle, one right side or middle), This incoming class is rated (take it with a grain of salt) either the #1 or #2 best incoming class in the country. The last time UW had a freshmen class that highly rated, they were the nucleus of the team that won the 2021 national championship.

Nothing going on in hockey and seems as though many of us also follow the volleyball team so may as well talk about it here.

4 players have entered the portal which opens up 4 spots (at least) for Kelly to fill.

I think its a double edged sword to a degree in that you want to show your recruits that they have a path to the floor. If you keep bringing in transfers to take the spots, I wonder if it eventually hurts recruiting. Gotta balance it.

On the other side though, there will be some really high end talent that is currently at other schools that will want to transfer in, especially hitters. Who wouldn't want to play at the Field House and have Charlie setting them?

Will be an interesting couple weeks as we see how it shakes out.

The 4 that left... I can understand why they would. The two liberos aren't going to beat out Simon, the middle blocker never played and Horner will start somewhere else without question. I'm sure teams have told her that. Can't blame her.

It's actually 5 (so far). The 5th that you're missing in Trinity Shadd-Ceres, who has been there for two years, injured much of the time, had gotten healthy just over the last month, and had gotten on the court in some strategic defensive substitutions, making some significant impact. But she is a left side hitter, and the competition for playing time there is going to be the most "crowded". So, away she goes.

Fingers are crossed that it stays at only five leaving. But what a 24 hours: lose the semi-final match and then have - between grads and transfers - half your team disappear.

Trinity I'm going to miss the most, her athleticism got me excited whenever she was on the floor. I loved watching her jump. Silver lining about the portal losses, I now will have a good reason to pick non Badger games to watch- ala UCLA or Tennessee this year.

I invite the volleyball lovers to find themselves a different room. This room is for another purpose. Thank you for your understanding.
