This may be the ideal result TBH. Had she outright won there would have been an earthquake. Now they can hide behind a lot of excuses, call this an off-year outlier, and keep ignoring the obvious lessons.
I did see that a 14-point uniform swing next year would gain the Democrats 50 House seats and 6 Senate seats. I do not expect anything close to that, but can you see the economy getting any better under this administration's policies?
And as you noted, netting 14 points would also breach the wall where gerrymanders start to turn into dummymanders.

The economy will accelerate it's existing slide right after the New Year, and they will have to really start fudging the numbers or stop reporting them altogether.

The second that poll came out showing it within the margin it was pretty obvious how it would play out. The GOP spent a ton of money and had Mikey there...they were scared. (Trump called twice) The gerrymander made it almost impossible though.
If the election was after the new year they might have had a chance. The Big Beautiful Disaster is not in effect yet...which Trump seems hellbent to remind people about. When those tax cuts hit and the ACA hikes its going to be crash and burn city. Then Shutdown 2 happens...
