Colgate 2025-26

Shots on goal last night: 39
Goals scored last night: 5

Points earned in the standings: ZERO. AUUUUGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

It gets worse. We are the only team in the ECAC with 0 points in the standings. All of the other 11 teams earned at least 1 point this past weekend. Nowhere to go but up, literally.

We will sweep this weekend !! Wonder why friday's game starts at 6:30 ?

Shabby,
Like last home weekend, there is a women’s game at 3 p.m., which moves the men’s game to 7:30 p.m. And it is only Friday as this is their home-n-home weekend with Cornell.

Reid Dyck led the team out onto the ice for tonight’s pre-game warmup. I am not sure, but my guess is that Noah Pak will be in goal for Yale. Andrew Takacs and Nick Haas are also dressed for ‘Gate.

13 seconds in, Yale has one shot and one goal.

Matching penalties. Killed.

Colgate penalty (interference). ‘Gate 5-1 SOG going in. Killed. 6-3 SOG coming out.

Yale penalty (high-sticking). 12-7 SOG going in. Ryan Spinale with the PPG (from LaBelle annd Sullivan). And Yale penalty (slashing) afterwards. Killed.
Very chippy!!

Colgate 19, Yale 7, SOG after one.
Colgate 1, Yale 1, score after one.

Yale penalty. 5 seconds in and Colgate’s LaBelle scored (from Norlin and Sullivan). And seconds later, Yale scored.

Yale penalty (slashing). Killed.

Colgate penalty (interference). And Yale scored an easy PPG.

Halfway through the game and SOG are 31-14 Colgate.

Yale penalty (hooking). Killed.
Yale penalty (tripping).

Colgate 37, Yale 18, SOG after two.
Yale 3, Colgate 2, score after two.

Yale penalty killed.

Colgate penalty (holding, then unsportsmanlike conduct). And Daniel Panetta with a beautiful short-handed goal.

Colgate penalty (slashing). Killed.

4:32 remaining in regulation. 46-22 SOG. 3-3 tie.

Colgate 48, Yale 22, SOG after regulation.
Colgate 3, Yale 3, score after regulation.

50-23. Simon LaBelle with the OT winner!!

I don’t even know what to write…
it is nearly 2 ayem and I am back home…
50-23 SOG…
4-3 OverTime win…
including a Daniel Panetta short-handed goal…
and a Simon LaBelle game-winning goal…
and a goal-against just 13 seconds in…
and no ‘Too Many Men On The Ice’ penalty…
and Yale taking more penalties than us (6-5).

26 college hockey games tonight, of which 15 were won by 3+ goals. Parity or Parody? Minnesota lost to Long Island, 6-2… at home. Just a crazy night, overall.

P.S. - After tonight, Minnesota is NPI#45 and Colgate is NPI#46 out of 63 programs.

Watching the game on ESPN+, the broadcast displayed the ECAC Standings for the first 12 seconds of the game, blocking the on-ice action. Then 1 second after the graphic disappeared, I see Yale score. Thought it would be another long night, but we battled back.

Was there any reason as to why Yale got a 4-minute power play in the 3rd? I didn't realize it until we tied the game with a shorthanded goal and we still had 3:09 of penalty time remaining. Then we got called for another penalty so that was 5 minutes, 9 seconds of us being shorthanded after tying the game. This was no doubt a very confidence-building win for us.

Labelle and Panetta finally showed up ! Dyck had some key saves on the 23 shots, everything came together last night. Got to win tonight or it doesn't mean much.
Have to mention the women beating #4 Cornell and a shutout 3-0. On to Lynah !

A good win, albeit in ot...great to see Labelle and Panetta play very well last night...we needed them as Brandt and Nagel were out (hopefully not long)...nonetheless, defensive coverage is still poor and, as mentioned before, Bergsland and Irwin are not around to clean up mistakes...and, everyone's right, 2-3 points tonight absolutely necessary and (concurrently) a similar effort from this rather inconsistent team...

Rainman,
Robby Newton got two-minutes for holding and then another two-minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct, thus the four minutes of being short-handed. Fortunately Daniel Panetta took advantage of the situation and scored a shortie.

Better late than never…

Colgate 6, Brown 5, SOG after one.
Colgate2, Brown 0, score after one.

Apparently Simon LaBelle scored two 5-on-3 PPGs.

Reid Dyck in goal for Colgate and Tyler Shea in goal for Brown.

Colgate penalty (boarding). Killed.

Brown penalty. Killed.
Matching penalties.

Colgate 15, Brown 10, SOG after two.
Colgate 2, Brown 0, score after two.

Penalties killed.

Colgate goal with 4:47 remaining in the third period. Brown challenged but rejected. Ryan Spinale from Brett Mercer and Michael Neumeier.

The thing I am happiest about is that we did not go into our usual defensive shell with a two-goal lead in the third period. We have kept our foot on the gas pedal.

Brown pulled goalie with four minutes remaining and Simon LaBelle got his hat trick!!

Colgate 24, Brown 11, SOG final.
Colgate 4, Brown 0, score final.

Yesterday, I spent a couple of hours with R. Braden Houston and his wife Judith (also known as "Chipper"). Even though he coached Colgate golf, men's hockey and women's hockey, we spent most of the visit talking about his years with the Toronto Marlies and University of New Hampshire, and his two seasons playing hockey in South Africa and one season in Germany. Just an entertaining and educational visit, though our dinner caused me to miss the first period last night.
