UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Its hard to nitpick a game where SOG were 54-16, but the offensive zone penalties continue to be a plague for this team. However, I was impressed with the breakout pretty much all night. There where only a handful of turnovers and even the thought process behind them seemed sound.

I would wager we see a much better UMass team tonight. I still like Maine by a pair, but it's almost impossible to get your ass kicked that bad twice
You never saw me in my younger drinking days. I was fully capable of getting my ass kicked twice in a row.

It happened so much. Now I say this to inspire hope in all of us that it is very very possible UMass can get wrecked tonight to.

Now, if you BELIEVE in my ability to get ass kicked twice, then BELIEVE so can UMass get said ass kicked.

Now who’s with me?!?! Let’s streak the quad!

I didnt really have a problem with the guy on play-by-play last night, he was alright. The color commentator was kind of obnoxious, as others have said. In all I didn't think it was that bad of a broadcast.
You are an extremely patient person. I can picture you going to the Allagash for a weekend canoe trip and camping on the river banks, sitting by the campfire, and not complaining about accidentally forgetting your bug dope. “I don’t know guys, these bugs aren’t that bad.” 😅

Obviously tough to excuse OZone penalties but with how much tenacity this team plays with on the forecheck some of those stick infractions are probably going to happen. Still want them to clean it up a bit, without sacrificing the team identity.

Last night UMass really struggled with their decision making with the puck, especially in the first half of the game. Maine forwards had them locked down and they were panicking every time up the ice.

I found some fun facts to kill time until puck drop:
  • Josh's 4 point game last night brought him back to exactly 1 Pt/G for his career!
  • UMass has the worst attendance percentage in Hockey East at 58.1% (albeit with the highest capacity building)!
  • Brandon Holt has exactly half his point total from last year (34 gp) already this season (9 gp).
  • UMass has a perfectly balance 3.2 G/gm and GA/gm.
  • Maine is currently 7th in Sh% at 13.4% which actually came DOWN last night. We really can't stress enough how dominant last night was.

I have a few Boija stat notes I can add as well...

Boija's played his 62nd career game last night, passing Rob McGovern (61). He is now tied for 15th on the career games played list for goalie with Jeff Nord.

He also got his 38th career win last night, entering him into a tie for 10th place with Jim Tortorella and Jeff Nord.

He also passed Dan Sullivan for 13th on the career minutes played list. Jim Tortorella is next up (3853 mins) but he won't catch him this weekend.

My GOAT 🐐

Also tonight's broadcast is on NESN so no Lazarus for his many fans among us.

EDIT: I might have spoke too soon. Jonny works for NESN as well...

Fitzgerald in addition to McBride.
Regarding the teams current minor woes: the main one is easily fixed by coaching and that main one is between the players ears. Skill and effort are there of late, but stupid mistakes too.
Barr will take care of the brain farts…if this team consistently plays smarter with effort, will be a fun winter.

Fitzy would flip his blond mullet all the time. When Maine would play Lowell at Tully it was fun to scream at him as he was right there in that high school like rink

lol. We both had a lot of hair back then. Fitzy once gave us a “Go BC” yell as he walked past us in line as he entered the Alfond for a BC/Maine game, and he flipped the mullet while yapping...
