UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Nadeau had an amazing game and it was nice to see him back to his old self.

Komarov deserves kudos… he went 10-6 for faceoff w-l. That’s a win rate of 62.5% win rate which is way above his average.

Shots 54-16…… like thats not a mis print holy moly
normally i would poo poo a home team naming a goalie giving up 6 goals one of the stars of a game as homerism, but Jackson Irving made 48 saves and honestly, his team played like shit in front of him. couldve been worse without him.

nice win. the only thing UMass really hung in there with them on was faceoffs. i doubt UMass will come out so lifeless tomorrow night, so i'd cautiously expect a closer game. maine can push that to the winning side though, as seen in prior games.

Really enjoyable game. Terrible listen. The home broadcasts for teams is littered with homers but the UMass guy tonight took the cake. At one point even mentioning a drinking game about his frequent mentions of playing hockey at UMass. He said “you’d be wasted.”

great win, forecheck was relentless. Played as good of a road game as one can play. I figured UMass would try to pin Maine on the boards, like Lake State, given their size but......... Good to see Josh get going. I would assume UMass plays differently tonight. Penalties seem to be an issue still, need to get control of that tonight. The shots differential was unreal especially when UMass blocked a ton. Boija in net tonight? I'd say yes

From all the comments, I'm glad I had the sound off as wife had to be up at quarter after dark this morning :)

I know you were still hollering at the officials. You can’t help yourself. No doubt still randomly PTSD yelling “Bunyan you suck. And your father swallows!”

She’s used to it by now. 🤣

We will make a Maine fan out of you yet Cinnamoroll. 😄

I was surprised how poorly umass played, are they that bad, probably not. They were just lethargic, no hustle, no chase to loose pucks, not physical on the boards. Did they take a pregame team sauna or something.
Dont get me wrong maine played well.
Tonight should be different, Carvel is a good coach and will have them ready.

"I'm not as think as you drunk I am! You better believe it or I'm dead where you stand."

Some context on what Poirier's goal pace is at the moment:

20 goal seasons have happened 58 times for the Black Bears, but have been rare since 2000 (just 9 times), with Lynden Breen the most recent in 2022/23.

That list narrows down to just 7 times where a player did it before hitting age 20: Gary Conn (18 & 19), Dave Capuano (19), Scott Pellerin (18 & 19), Chris Ferraro (19), and Paul Kariya (18).

Its hard to nitpick a game where SOG were 54-16, but the offensive zone penalties continue to be a plague for this team. However, I was impressed with the breakout pretty much all night. There where only a handful of turnovers and even the thought process behind them seemed sound.

I would wager we see a much better UMass team tonight. I still like Maine by a pair, but it's almost impossible to get your ass kicked that bad twice

I will say, thinking about road fans being stuck watching the Maine broadcast have really tempered my complaints about opposing announcers.

Also in terms of pace to start the year, Kariya had 10 in his first 10 and Ingraham had 11 in his first ten in 92-93... quite the company he has put himself in.

One thing I find strange is that Maine struggled so much with the EZAC teams and has had their way with hockey east teams. I’m sure some of it is Maine improving but just seems really odd. Maybe the league truly is bad this year.

I didnt really have a problem with the guy on play-by-play last night, he was alright. The color commentator was kind of obnoxious, as others have said. In all I didn't think it was that bad of a broadcast.

Regarding tonight's game, one reason I have some confidence is that aside from against QU, Maine has been better on Saturday than they were Friday every weekend this season. Hoping they can keep that trend running, since they'll probably need it against the UMass team they'll see tonight.
