RPI 2025–26: Off the Critical List and In Recovery

Quick game week kickoff. Miami is coming off a penalty riddled two game sweep of Ferris. A potpourri of 23ish pugilistic penalties called (boarding, charging, roughing, slashing, you name it :) ) assessed in two games. I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume those two teams dislike each other. Miami outscored Ferris 9-5 in two games.

Ha ha...love it. I've got some bottle returns -- I'll add them to Doc's Klink account. LOL Doc, sell one of the Porsches from your stable and pony up to the ESPN+ bar for crissakes....life is short !! (I do share your disdain for the evil four letter BTW...) Ha ha
We are thinking of going down a car but having difficulty deciding which one. Not a fan of leasing but less of a fan of laying out mid 6 figures for transportation. I simply hate ESPN for a boat load of reasons and since we can see most everything without subscribing will stay this way. If it was not available to us would have to do something.

We didn't score any goals against BU. They are probably better than any team we will play against in the regular season. Is there anyone who watched the game, either live or streamed, who thinks that there is evidence that we have an offense.

I watched parts of the 2nd and 3rd period. We got some chances especially in the 2nd, but there was not a lot of prolonged offensive zone puck possession. It kind of reminded me of watching RPI's last three (scoreless) NCAA tournament appearances, where in any given minute it looked like we held our own and yet it seemed like it was inevitable the other guys would break through.

That said, I think it could have been much MUCH worse. The defense didn't break down constantly, they could clear the zone, I thought they got decent goaltending from all three they put out there. For a newly assembled-from-spare-parts team with a new coaching staff playing the #2 ranked team? Can't complain too much. We need a much larger sample size and time for them to get into the groove and gel as a group.

We had some chances that just didn't go. I don't think the offense will be great or anything, but I don't think it'll be terrible. Probably a little below average in the 2.6-2.8 goals per game range

First period was pretty good where they outplayed BU, definitely their best period and had a decent number of chances then. Agree with what you said about the 2nd and 3rd

We had a few good and even a couple of better than good chances. We hit iron at least once. We had one clean break away. For some periods of time in the first period and early second, at least one line was able to exert enough sustained pressure and control in the zone that the seasoned BU announcers mentioned it. i think there will be a few games where that kind of effort might be adequate. there are others in which we will need a lot more. i too am sorry we did not manage to one goal at least but reserve any sort of judgement until after next weekend at home for 2 games.

I was at the game and I agree. 1st period was even or leaned RPI. RPI back checked well the whole game. Goal #2 was BU power play after RPI being short 2 players. Goal #3 was empty net.

i went to the army union game with my rpi hoodie on i got told by a union kid rpi f 'n sucks and i loved it that what makes rivalry great. my other take aways full bar is nice ... the rink was nice... parking was easy the dumb things no cupholders the noise in there is deafening music and announcer crap food and $9 pretzel

A free article on Neutral Zone about the changes to recruiting that affected this year's entering classes.

Good article that leads to a question, where should our last assistant come from? At this time of year it’s hard to hire staff so we may have limited choices (quite possible we wait until spring for the right guy), but what background would we like? Based on Coach Lang’s summer interview I’d imagine CHL. However, he’s also known to zig when others zag and the article describes how most top programs have thrown their hooks into the CHL pond. Could a USHL background pay off better? Double down in Europe? Even grab an alum with ECHL connections? Thoughts?

The article states that Cornell does that. :)

A $9 pretzel?

Did they at least provide free mustard to put on it?
