UMass Lowell 2025-2026: Youth will be served

Nice to see another #5 that can put the puck in the net. Not much to complain about that one. New Jumbotron looks great. Now they just need better cameras.
I cant quite compare head on with last years team but if tonight is an indication its a good one. Do I think they'll be top flight? No. Should they contend for an ncaa bid, I think so.

Also, first place :p

Was a fun night, great energy level from the team and the crowd. Listed attendance was 6804 which, from what I can tell, is ons of the largest ever.

The only negative was Daniel Buchbinder leaving early in the game with an apparent leg/knee injury. Hopefully it not serious.

Oh, not a fan of the MC away uniforms.

They didn’t look terrible online, but on the ice they were definitely an eyesore. I thought their old golds were a good color; not sure why they decided to switch to neon yellow

7th largest, and 2nd largest for a home opener.

Solid start. The freshmen seemed to get more comfortable as the game went on. Specifically Shipley and Tnias on the back end. Shipley started making more plays with the puck and Tnias was playing more assertive in all three zones. Also, that fourth line could create absolute misery for teams throughout the season. They spent a lot of time in the O-zone and Adaszynski plays the exact same way as Eddy- heavy and hard. They were both finishing hits all night and brought the speed and tenacity you want from role players. Definitely some sloppy play that you would expect from opening night but glad most of the guys got settled in as the game went on. Kind of nitpicking here, but the last few minutes of the game they seemed to fall into the "this one's over, let's just go through the motions to finish it off" mentality, which can't become a habit. Let's see what happens on the road next week.

Overall, extremely pleased with what I saw on Friday night. They gave me what I asked for (for one game at least); the entertainment at home and a win.

One player that needs to get some credit is Elliott. He wasn't tested often, but he did make some huge saves, especially late in the first when Merrimack was trying to even out the game.

Great crowd, let's keep this going.

Buchbinder's injury didnt look like a concussion to me. Looked to be no weight on his leg. Couldnt agree more, loved the overall speed and forecheck. Hope to see more of the same this weekend.

From today's Lowell Sun:
Friday was the largest home crowd in 10 years, the second largest crowd for a home opener, and the seventh largest crowd ever at Tsongas. It also represented the 53rd sellout in the history of the Tsongas, which opened on Jan. 27, 1998.

I do think that Scott Borek is a good coach, so I expect Merrimack to come out better than they did the last weekend. Hopefully Lowell is ready for this.

According to Mike McMahon, forward Justin Gill will be in the lineup for Merrimack tonight. Gill played 35 games for Bridgeport (AHL) and 23 games for Worcester (ECHL) last season.

Merrimack will open its home schedule tonight against UMass Lowell, and the Warriors’ lineup will feature a notable newcomer. Justin Gill has officially joined the roster after being cleared by the NCAA this week.
Gill spent last season split between two pro levels — appearing in 35 games with the Bridgeport Islanders (AHL) and producing nearly a point per game for the Worcester Railers (ECHL). A fifth-round selection of the New York Islanders in the 2023 NHL Draft, Gill becomes the latest former pro to earn NCAA eligibility, following similar cases in recent years at Bemidji State, Quinnipiac, and Arizona State.

Tonight's lineup.
