Minnesota Women's Hockey 2025-26

Someone who never lost 18-1 to Minnesota
I thought of your program while at Ridder this week. I've seen them play in a variety of locations over the years, from All-Seasons Arena in Mankato to the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud and several different Frozen Fours. Coach Sisti always was willing to talk and always had pride in his team. I never saw them quit, even though the breaks went against them from the drop of the puck in the 2013 FF. While the Lakers were still a contender, he made a comment that Bemidji reminded him a lot of his team. You don't hear too many successful coaches admit that a team known primarily as a losing program did many of the same things on the ice that his winning team was doing. Even though there were seasons where Mercyhurst had elite players, the program's DNA has been a lunchbucket crew that came to work. Teams like Minnesota and Cornell can speak to the risk of playing them in March.

What in the world? This is everything I said about the CHA:

We are at the level of the CHA now and whatever single team makes an appearance in the NCAA tournament is just going to be in Happy To Be Here mode for the foreseeable future.

That is some serious insecurity to blow me up over a factual statement about the quality of Hockey East. I did not say "The CHA sucks." It is a factual statement that the CHA -- as fun and frisky as the league always is/was/whatever -- has always been a significant step below the Big Three and has (rather famously, in fact) been a one-bid league essentially since its inception. I am not being disrespectful for making the statement that Hockey East has dropped significantly below the Big (now) Two into a tier with the CHA and is now very much a one bid league (in a world with an 11 team tournament, no less).

There's nothing sucky about the CHA, everyone including me loves the mid-major conferences in every sport and they fill a fun and important role, but they were certainly a large step behind Hockey East and now they are not.

And if you're going to be EXTRA mad because Mercyhurst had several great years relative to the rest of their league before flaming out in the NCAA tournament... well, heck, that sounds quite a lot like Hockey East the last several years too, doesn't it??

Lastly -- really, are you getting that bristled over me saying CHA instead of AHA? I to this day call it the CHA with wistful affection because I like the history of the CHA and I'm still a bit miffed that they had to get shackled with the men's league name simply because Men.

Since when do we have beef?? lol what the heck!

If I have typed a single word of non-fact in this post, I would love for it to be pointed out to me. But I suspect my take here is pretty widely accepted as true.

Grant you are hilarious. You see hockey East as having been part of the big 3. How many nattys? You have the gold medal coaches and the Olympians and all that like the WCHA but that's where the similarities with that league ends and it's always been that way. You have had more in common with the CHA forever. Better players? Yes. Better results? Never when it matters.

I have seen your terrible comments about Mercyhurst and the cha for more than a decade. I have a decent memory I can’t help it.

One thing I got wrong. When Mercyhurst beat you guys by a combined 2 game score of 10-1 in 2005 your were already 10 years deep in your varsity journey. Forgive me for thinking you guys were just emerging from club, when my scoring challenged CHA team destroyed your Hockey School.

I saw your comments back in 2012 or so about how bad Mercyhurst was when you guys came to Erie. Of course you guys split even though you had like Bolden, Skarupa and who knows who else on your team.

I saw your disbelief on twitter when Mercyhurst beat you guys in Nashville. Like losing to Minnesota was ok to you, but OMG Mercyhurst? Why should it surprise you to lose to Mercyhurst? Once again, the disrespect. Thank you Minnesota for destroying these guys yesterday.

I saw you talk crap about how Mercyhurst would never beat Clarkson the last time they were in the tourney. Lakers took them to OT on the road. I forget what Clarkson did that year, runners up or champs maybe. Think that was the same year you guys got shut out at home in the playoffs against a team making their NCAA debut.

I've seen you cry about having to play Syracuse because they were an ACC team and that's why your schedule isn't tough enough to prepare you for the NCAA's. And the Beanpot! It's those other boston teams fault for not making you playoff ready, it's because of Harvard being bad. Make excuses and cry about your team, but leave the AHA out of it. If you didn't have a long history of making unnecessary comments about the quality of the league, maybe I would accept your comments today as fact, rather than deflective potshots at another group. But again - not fact because your best teams have never done any better than the best teams in the CHA. That's the argument I've made for years. You've never been better than us lol.

The only time you ever said anything nice was when RMU got their program cut and for once in your life you acknowledged "they are actually good." So miss me with mid major comments or whatever.

Don't you ever call my pride in Mercyhurst and the CHA/AHA insecurity. You don't know what you are talking about. Nice job by the Hurst sweeping UNH this weekend.

Damn that's crazy

Anyway I stand by my post lol
Nope. You lost 18-1. And instead of owning it you bring up the AHA and say you are like them….disrespecting players at lesser known, lesser hockey brand, lesser resourced schools that work their butts off so as not to lose 18-1 against the big names.

RIT which only recently started giving out scholarships performed better against Minnesota in their last outing than your hockey school. And Penn State beat them last year. The AHA teams are performing better against Minnesota by your team.

And you use the word crazy because I point it out.

Thanks for sharing.

His program is definitely built on the things you say: pride, hard work, never giving up. There is no trap door at center ice; you’ve gotta play 60 minutes or more so make the most of it.

I respect him as a coach. Extremely hard on us, he was our coach, not our friend. But if crazy real world things happened, and they did, he flipped the switch off on the hard ass coach role. He met the moment and lead. I appreciated it then, and more now that I have my own kids.

I use the lessons I learned there pretty much everyday of my life. Not to sound like Mark Johnson, but Mercyhurst gave me an opportunity, and I don’t forget it. And people lose sight of that in todays sports climate, from college on down through youth. The opportunity sitting right in front of them.

Tough OT loss against UMD last week, was hoping they could steal that win. Rooting for them as always.

2027 recruiting class looks very good so far. Four forwards: Sydney Stoughton and Annabelle Lovell from Lovell Academy in Boston, Talla Hansen from Benilde, and Adrianna Milani from the Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins program. A couple years away from them coming to campus but on paper, they're getting the horses.

Just saw the news that Milani committed as well. I have to hand it to the staff. They have gone out and recruited the heck out of the 27 class. If they can get one of the two top Canadian defenders (Massey or Matt or both) then this 27 class will be their best they have had in awhile.

Interesting to note that Emily Pohl is still out there. Would love to see her commit as well. Would be a shame to see her become an opponent recruit.

Here is a article about Milani if you don't know who she is...

Pohl's the last top 5 MN HS player to commit from that class. I don't think WI would be interested and not the best fit with TOSU, so if not with the Gophers that could get interesting for the documentary, LOL. Talla Hansen is the real deal, should be fun to watch.

8 is at Canada's national camp this week. Is she playing for the Gophers this weekend? I don't remember exactly where I saw a post about national team practice dates, other than I think I read there was one a month.

EDITED TO ADD: Okay, I found what I was looking for. Kennedy said Canada has a two-week camp in Toronto. Feel like it's unlikely Primo plays against BU but we'll see.

Since the Gophers will be taking part in this, I thought I would post this over here.....

Love me some Abbey Murphy. Always have.

Murphysota, hats off to thee!
To thy colors true we shall ever be,
Firm and strong, united are we.
Rah, rah, rah, for Ski-U-Mah,

M-U-R-P-H-Y-S-O-T-A
Murphysota! Murphysota!
Yaaaay Gophers!

Unfortunately, my theory about how we beat BU at home, then beat USC in football also at home didn't translate to us being BU on the road, then beating OSU in football. Thankfully, there's vodka to help with that.
