CHL to NCAA Recruiting Megathread

With it being mentioned a couple times throughout that, it will be interesting to see how some of these guys adjust to the no fighting aspect of college hockey.
QMJHL has banned fighting so they should be ok, at least with the concept of fight=suspension off the hop. OHL guys have a threshold for max fights before additional fights are auto suspensions.

WHL only suspends if you get an extra major or match penalty, like an instigator or coming off the bench. Otherwise it’s pretty much free to go. It’s a double edged sword, where the physicality in the WHL is closest to the college game especially in leagues like the CCHA, but the fighting aspect is banned. Most fights come about as a result of a hit someone doesn’t like, so I don’t think anyone so far is a pure enforcer (a la the Boulton brothers). If I come across any, i’ll point it out.

Some guys are frequent fliers with suspensions though (usually WHL). most major penalties result in a suspension. the one who comes to mind is Marshall Finnie at Niagara

Great CCHA recap. Bemidji just dropped their roster today, and Birnie and LeGall must be opting for another year in the CHL as they are not on the roster.
i love when right after i complete a project they release the actual roster with some curveballs, because not only are those two missing, they have FOUR NEW USPORTS TRANSFERS.

legall i’m not surprised about, he could make some real noise with Everett after a strong start to his WHL career, birnie makes some sense but is definitely news to me

i will edit the post tonight with the new additions 😭😭

They got you again! 🤣

You are doing great, beyond what we expect.

Thanks for putting in so much time to providing great info.

I can’t wait for that podcast you have been promising us. 😉

ok so some wild things going on in Bemidji State's recruiting class, which I shouldn't be surprised about considering this is Mr Tom "Sports is weird" Serratorre, but here we are. two of these adds are easy enough but the other two have some not-insignificant pro experience in the minor leagues. as in, AHL and ECHL. Jared Rubado is putting out an article on the how of that situation.

Rubado also reminded me of the fact that Brady Birnie had been traded to Penticton in the WHL Expansion Draft (in a trade deal that included Boomer DeMars, which was more notable than Birnie's rights being traded).

enough about beavers. let's talk about the real news, the most important merging of two powerhouses announced today... obviously talking about the OHL moving to flohockey.

Thanks for the info/heads up on the article coming soon. I have been busy with work and my own son's hockey, so I have not been able to follow as closely as I have in the past.

no worries- most of this is all breaking news.

speaking of, theres apparently 1 sole CHLer at Augustana, so will add that. if anyone has any intel on ferris state secretly pulling a CHL recruit out of their ass, please let me know lol

the QMJHL rosters have been set and I will compile a list of all the committed players on teams' initial rosters. including the returnees

Flohockey now has OHL and QMJHL. Is WHL also going to be added?

We have our answers... Tom Serratorre is a mad genius who wanted to "give it the ol' college try". I missed him.

tl;dr: Both had been deemed eligible for USports, Tennessee had a basketball player with 1 year of pro declared eligible. They threw darts and hoped it would stick. It did. 10/10 no notes
Boy, how things have changed. Right around 2000, when BSU was in their D-I transition year, they had a commitment from a stud defenseman out of the Maritimes (I can't remember his name). The problem was, he played two exhibition games in the Q, never signed a contract, and was let go. He couldn't clear the clearinghouse at the time, even though the clearinghouse arbitrator in charge of his case was an ex NCAA hockey player who had played a few major junior games in his day and got cleared for NCAA competition.

this sort of situation was exactly what the inevitable lawsuit was about, because that sort of pedantic nonsense was not about to hold up in court. i do like seeing the USports transfers getting these chances, Serratorre just took it to a wild new level for fun and it worked.

we’ve even seen a transfer who never officially played CHL hockey but had such a standout season in USports hes going to NCAA. i’m guessing he had a similar situation with going to some CHL camp or preseason but never made the team. Luca Fasciano had a breakout rookie season and is joining Michigan Tech. he’s the kind of guy that never would’ve been considered beforehand.
