RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

yeah it’s definitely noticeable. Bad news is like most colleges RPI is not hiring anyone unless absolutely necessary. So what we see is what we get so expect piss poor communication and lengthy waits for rosters and bio if they even bother to post bios lol. I just want to see the damn final roster with numbers. Not too much to ask
That is indeed the most important part.

The only member of ECAC hockey that opted in is Quinnipiac. Mike McMahon of college hockey news last new letter broke down every conference who opted in and out. Qpac is the only one for ecac.
Will take a wild guess that at least 6 ECAC Hockey members will not be very happy with the Q's choice and may want to break away from them or have them kicked out. Not even a wild guess on what the take of the other five ECAC members might be.

May be a replay of over four decades ago when the Ivys got a bug up their butts about how others were running their affairs. When some of the others, who originally numbered only five, had enough of Ivy BS they broke away and formed what eventually would become Hockey East. Back then, the Ivys got more (including RPI) to follow them than vice versa but I doubt that part would repeat in the present.

Wouldn't these jobs be available for students?
These kids are motivated and could use the money or credit depending on the offer.
They certainly are used all around the campus for employment from the book store to the video dept.
I bet they would do a great job.

I had similar thoughts, but with a different conclusion. The Ivies were willing to be in a league with small scholarship schools because their big aid budgets and academic advantage have always kept them competitive. That may have shifted as D1 Q (whose other league the MAAC includes schools like Siena that opted in) has used its facilities and recruiting advantages to be pretty dominant. Having been peers with scholarship schools the Ivies couldn’t really complain much. However, they could draw the line now at being in a league with a school that is outright paying players. I could see some pressure for the Bobcats to go to HE to be replaced by Holy Cross.

I would expect the other schools, including RPI would stay with the Ivies. None of them are going to opt in. The only D1school in the bunch is Patriot League, Colgate. That league was anti-House so much so that all full members (including HC) opted out. Surprisingly that included BU, although they may be able to compete by finding enough Boston-area NIL opportunities for hockey.

Overall excellent analysis. However, I question if there would be enough yes votes from the six Ivys, Clarkson, SLU, Union, Colgate and RPI to ever admit Holy Cross or any Catholic institution for that matter. My best guess would instead be RIT who may be paired up as travel partners with Colgate. The travel time between RIT and Colgate is actually less than the present travel time between the Q and Princeton. Of course, I am assuming RIT is also an opt out.

No, SLU is not Catholic. It is not named after a saint. It is named after a river!!! Also, despite being a Catholic heavy MACC member for most of their sports, the Q is not Catholic either as far as I know.

Am I really hinting that the luminaries who luminate (a Clyde Frazier saying) institutions that make up ECAC Hockey look down at Catholic institutions with utter disdain and contempt??? YEP!!!

I confess that I didn’t give that component much thought, largely because I’d like to believe it wouldn’t be a serious issue in the 21st century. I can’t imagine anyone would look down their noses at schools like ND and Georgetown. In the case of hockey the Ivies were in a league with PC and BC for many years and I didn’t hear that religious affiliation was a component in the ECAC-HE split. Perhaps I’m being naive.

As for RIT I thought about them but the travel partner arrangement would be even more awkward than today, with Princeton again the outlier. RIT would probably have to partner with Cornell. Colgate would then have to partner with Union. Both CUs have no practical highway path to Princeton. That would leave us as Princeton’s partner (note: their partner today is QU, which is even closer to Yale than RPI is to Union, so we have a precedent for a weird split of natural local rivals). That would probably help us by giving us a tired Saturday opponent, traveling even farther than today’s Princeton to QU leg, but it wouldn’t feel very natural.

If the league went with CotHC then Yale would be Princeton’s travel partner. At least that would be no worse than today’s alignment and pair two Ivy League schools.

Just got a quick look at the only roster I could locate for 2025-2026. it appears we may be the youngest (? 16 freshmen)/ biggest (? only 7 skaters listed under 185 pounds, and most European (? 7 listed) that I can recall in all the years of following RPI hockey. Of course, the roster I found could be totally inaccurate since nothing is posted on the RPI website. But i cannot think of too many seniors or grad students returning or transferring in for this coming year. I will therefore refrain from my usual early (and wrong) prediction for the season since I have absolutely no clue what we have!!!

Exactly right, I'd be willing to bet this is how a lot of schools handle the website and sports information needs of the athletic departments.

Overall, this is year two of the Athletic Director's tenure so we need to start seeing tangible signs of improvement within the department as a whole and with fan engagement, a big void left when Sashi departed.

Anyone know what head coaches in the ECHL make? I’m getting 50 different answers when I Google the shit.
I'm sure it varies a bit depending on the organization and team ownership. If you are a team that routinely sells out your rink ( Glens Falls) then you are able likely able to pay your coach bit more than under performing teams. I'd be willing to bet that the range is between $70-100,000 on the high end depending on the market and ownership.

Maybe? Doesn’t seem like it tho. Seems like the communication is getting worse.

My count gives 8 freshmen (Hilditch, Buckley, Scherzer, Lemieux, Kyrkostas, Krawchuk, Klassek, and Henneberry). Did you count the number of skates? ;) I also get 7 Europeans.

It is an older listing - since as you already know, the RPI site is still from last year. i simply counted the names I did not recognize that were listed as first year. i defer to your listing of course. Still looks like we are a big European laden team (which I like very much!!!)

Congrats to Brad -- who might be the most experienced coach of the Fridgen coaching tree !
he has a pretty good team for this year. One problem for him is that he does not speak a word of Slovakian!! I looked around that website a bit and their cheerleading squad (the Angels) would get me to attend games even if the team was not winning!!

Was in the neighborhood, so I drove by HFH this morning. There were no obvious signs (trucks, equipment, etc) indicating they were working on replacing the refrigeration / ice equipment, so I can only assume we'll be stuck with milky ice again this season. I thought I had read somewhere they were planning to get this work done this summer ??
