NHL 2024: SLC Puck

US beats Czechia 5-2 to finish second in Group B. Will face either Canada or Finland in the quarterfinals depending on the result of the Canada-Sweden game.

I will say that how the quarterfinals and semifinals work at IIHF tournaments with the two venues is pretty stupid.

For example, the US, who has spent the last two weeks in Herning, now has to pack up and travel to Stockholm to play Finland, who has been in Stockholm the entire time, on Thursday afternoon.

Canada has it far worse. The Canadians now have to pack up and travel to Herning, after being in Stockholm, to play Denmark on Thursday and then, if they win, travel back to Stockholm to play on Saturday. And Canada won their group!

US beats Finland 5-2 to advance to the USA elimination round aka the Semifinals.

US likely playing Canada in the semifinals unless Czechia or Denmark can pull an upset over Sweden or Canada.

Edit: Switzerland advanced after neutralizing Austria 6-0.

Ok who had Canada giving up two goals in the last three minutes and losing 2-1 to Denmark?

Semifinals will be Switzerland vs Denmark and US vs Sweden.

Everyone’s favorite Britta Curl scores to tie game 2 with 15 seconds left, then scores the winner in OT to tie the series. Still not available to the media after the game. Game three in St.Paul on Saturday.

For the first time in 13 attempts and 91 years the US Men’s National Ice Hockey Team has won a semifinal at the World Championships, defeating Sweden 6-2.

They will achieve their highest finish since 1960.

Now that Shanahan got fired in Toronto, maybe they can put him back in charge of player discipline. He'd ban half of the Panthers, which is frankly over due.
