Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

The US has become that Demotivation poster:

I guess the world finally growing up is a fair exchange for the US decline into a screaming toddler.
And as with the screaming toddler, the adults in the room have only too options. Reward the tirade to placate the screaming ensuring that that behavior is learned as a way to get rewarded, or ignore it until it cries itself out and then can be engaged with rationally.

Donnie Trump puts an end to Brexit. That's just amazing.

They are going to couch the lack of trucking under the guise of "we got rid of the Truckers we didn't want or need".

My understanding is that it already is a requirement. Or rather the requirement that they can read road signs. So again trying to force/take credit for something that is already happening. And unless shipping drops considerably (which given the current state of things it could) we would never have enough drivers to move shit around the US, so price would go up even more, again.

I believe most states require someone getting a CDL to go through an official training school and through licensed testers. If people that shouldn't have a CDL are getting them, it's because the people hiring the non-English speaking drivers have given bribes and kickbacks to the schools and testers to pass them or found other loopholes to get them through. And I will guarantee that the guys running those schools and training centers are maga.

I know in Idaho, they changed it recently that you have to go through specific schools and specific testers. Most of that came about after a guy was nabbed for fraud for taking bribes and passing guys on their skills test. They would get enough studying done to pass the written test but it was the skills test that was ultimately holding people back. But the state was letting independent folks do it. I had one guy get his that passed the written on his first try but needed 3 tries to pass the skills test as he missed stuff on the pre-drive inspection and automatically failed before even getting to test drive. Turns out we were using the skills tester that was taking bribes. We just didn't know it. So he kept having to repay to take the test.

Trucking is falling off a cliff...the ports are all getting less and less business. That is why they are doing this...when there is nothing to ship they will pretend the shock to the system was caused by them getting rid of "bad actors" not their disaster of a foreign economic policy.

I bought something off of Amazon and it comes in from China. It's been stuck in customs for over 3 weeks now.
Who did you buy it from? A small store using Amazon to boost sales, or a larger company using Amazon for convenience? If it's a smaller operation you may never get your item. Even though they sold it before there was a tariff, they still have to pay it or customs will not release the order. They will only hold it for so long and then they destroy it. I watched a video by a guy who imports game models (D&D etc) and he's refunding the customers he can and going out of business because he knows he can't afford to pay the tariffs without going into massive debt and he knows his customers can't pay what he would have to charge to maintain even a tiny profit.

Truckers needing to speak English is already a federal law. This EO means nothing.

Of course it means nothing...it isn't supposed to mean anything. Its an excuse for the fact that Port of LA is projecting a 35% drop in imports because China turned their ships around. Blame the truckers when supply lines go bust.

How do we collect tariffs if China doesn't ship anything?

I just want these guys in our government to track down the truck driver turned sociopathic killer Rusty Nail from the movie Joy Ride. No way that dude actually died at the end of the movie. No one dies from a car crash before Paul Walker.

You didn't see the end of the movie?
They hear Rusty Nail on the CB and realize he's still alive. The dead guy wasn't him...

Yup...and unlike many other professions a lot of the Truckers that voted for this are independent contractors so they are doubly screwed. Maybe they can drive around DC burning gas again to protest...phuckking morons.
