University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

I’m optimistic for next year. This class is extremely strong on the back end. It will also be a real test for the coaching staff to continue to maximize players potential.

The sign of a good program is one that can reload rather than rebuild. BC and BU can obviously do it, we’ve seen Providence, UMass and UMass Lowell do it to some extent, now is Maine’s chance to prove that they’re here to stay.

From the looks of it some real key pieces that we thought might leave early will be back which should help (Boija, Nadeau, Holt, Djurasevic) There also should be really solid leadership in this room again, it’ll all come down to whether or not they can find some goals because this team likely won’t be scored on a lot.

Denver has to be the luckiest team of all time. Even when that Denver goalie is way out of the net, somehow the other team hits crossbar. This already is making my blood pressure go up because it reminds me of that title game in Boston against Maine.

Watching this game we just really shat our pants. BU is not better then Maine or atleast equal but they're handling the speed much better and much more confidently. BU looks way better against pace and PSU offense
Maine definitely played bad vs. Penn State. Couldn’t transition through center ice, and Penn State did.

Might be a big reason we are seeing so many new faces on defense that are offensive and mobile defensemen.

Need some more speedy stick handling forwards like Russell and Nadeau to help transition too.

Maine needs offense next season. I expect some of the remaining forwards to get better but need some more to fit in from wherever.

bu nor penn looked that great. On a good day maine plays with them or wins.
I still cant grasp that loss to penn. Something off happen in the locker room disrupting team chemistry - idk.

I dont think BU would be in frozen 4 without Starte. He seems to be another excellent goalie.

Maine probably beats PSU in a seven game series. That's the downside of a one game playoff. No margin for error if you have an off-night like Maine did.

Still doesn't take the sting away from the missed opportunity of being a top-five team all season and laying an egg like they did.

That said I like what Barr has for next season: a team built with what might be the deepest defensive core in the country and a Richter-level goalie. Think the jury is still out on what the offensive side looks like, but as long as they play a similar feisty game on the forecheck they're going to be miserable to play against every night.
