Quinnipiac Bobcats 2024-25 - Meet me in St. Louis!

Uconn/Umass are locked into 6/11. UMass swaps with a #12 QU and you have a Nutmeg rematch vs Uconn in Allentown. UMass gets shipped to Fargo.

We are 12 if Cornell wins tomorrow, 13 if Clarkson wins.

Minnesota will be 4, WMU will be 5 if WMU loses tomorrow, they swap if WMU wins. You're right that as of now it looks like the only team UMass can play is the 5-seed (Minny or Western Michigan), which means if we finish 12th we probably face UConn. If we finish 13, we almost certainly play the Minny/WMU 1-seed. The bracket is very clean right now, though things can still change a bit.

I see them playing Minnesota in Fargo with Penn State playing Western Michigan in Allentown whatever seeds they will be. If they have to flip QU/PSU in seeding than that's what will happen.

They won't move a team out of a seeding band if they don't have to. UMass's only possible opponent could end up being the 5-seed, which will be WMU or Minnesota. If Denver wins its conference, they get the 8-seed and maybe UMass faces them instead. If we finish 13th, we'd face Minnesota or WMU. If we finish 12th, that probably lines us up with UConn unless UMass gets Denver. Switching the 11 and 12 seeds is the least disruption to the bracket which is probably what they would do.

As frustrating as last night's loss was, it's time to put it behind us and focus on what lies ahead.

As bad as Quinnipiac's history has been in Lake Placid (1-5 since our last Whitelaw Cup in 2016), their recent history in the NCAA Tournament has been quite the opposite. 6-2 since 2022 and 3-0 in the opening round over the last 3 seasons. QU has been one of the most dangerous teams in the national tournament since 2019.

2024 - Win OT vs. Wisconsin / Loss OT vs. BC
2023 - Win vs. Merrimack / Win vs. OSU / Win vs. Michigan / Win OT vs. Minnesota
2022 - Win vs. St. Cloud St. / Loss vs. Michigan
2021 - Loss OT vs. Minnesota State
2020 - no tournament
2019 - Win vs. ASU / Loss vs. Minnesota Duluth

That said, I will proudly be wearing my 2023 National Championship garb at tonight's Clarkson/Cornell game. Why? Because Cornell and Clarkson can both suck it.

So we are the 12-seed. My best guess is that we're going to Allentown. The 11-seed UMass will play the 5-seed Minny or WMU because they can't play 7-seed or 6-seed, and giving them the 8-seed feels like a huge move. Sending us to Allentown helps attendance and gives Allentown an all-East regional.

My guess:

Allentown:
No. 3 Maine vs No. 13 Penn St (PSU must be in Allentown)
No. 6 UConn vs No. 12 Quinnipiac

Manchester:
No. 1 BC vs No. 16 AHA winner
No. 8 Denver vs No. 9 Providence (these seeds could swap, but the matchup won't)

Toledo:
No. 2 Michigan St. vs No. 15 Cornell
No. 7 BU vs No. 10 Ohio St

Fargo
No. 4 Minn/WMU vs No. 14 Minn. St
No. 5 Minn/WMU vs No. 11 UMass

Yeah ... about that.

Congrats on your title. I have huge respect for your coach despite the rivalry and despite what I said in that post lol

Saw Coach Schafer at the hotel bar after the game tonight and I congratulated him and wished him well in retirement.

But you're right. Despite the heated battles over the years between our two schools, there was always a mutual respect between both programs.

As you said, great first day. Always nice to see the B1G teams lose. That BU-OSU game was crazy in the 2nd. I was watching at work and kept thinking they were showing replays. 5 goals in that short amount of time was exciting hockey.

Looking forward to today’s games. Go Bobcats! Motivation for a payback today.

I’ve watched Quinnipiac hockey games at four different home rinks… that might be the worst period they’ve played since the East Haven Rink days. We aren’t a vintage QU team, but we aren’t this bad either. First shot on goal coming with 2 mins and change left in the period? 2 bad turnovers leading to goals yet we are one of 10 teams in the nation still alive. Cmon boys.

Ultimately, that first period was unsurvivable. We looked nervous in that period, and while it got better in the 2nd and 3rd, just cant recover from that against such a good team.

I could question the decision to go with Silverstein, who fought the puck all night, but it doesn't much matter. Ultimately, losing at this stage of the tournament is probably about what this team deserved. Losing at this stage is a fair result; we were not one of the best 8 teams in the country this year. Huge accomplishment to even get to this point considering all the roster turnover.

Jeremy Wilmer, BTW, was the best player on the ice tonight. Hopefully he sticks with us for another year and doesn't go to the portal or to the pros.

We had enough talent to win this game, but we didn't quite have the magic. Good season, and the fact we feel disappointment tonight speaks to how far we continue to climb.

Congrats to UConn on their first NCAA Tournament win. Hopefully this is the start of a good rivalry between the two best programs in CT.
